Uber client details stolen

https://www.morgenpost.de/wirtschaft...ndendaten.html

Interesting that it now pops up that 57 million client details were stolen in 2016

Re: Uber client details stolen

...and Uber paid the hackers $100,000 to destroy the data.

Win/win really. Uber is motivated to tighten its security and gets a fine of $100,000...

Still it might be prudent to change login and payment passwords and associated Paypal passwords.

They have my credit card details, why would I want to change anything associated with PayPal ? Even if they charged to PayPal they would not know my password!

Re: Uber client details stolen

The best way for Uber to have become legally responsible for the hack is by failing to disclose it to the regulating authority, their affected employees and customers in a timely manner.

As an alternative approach, Uber covered up the hack by paying $100k hush-money based on a promise by hackers that they really will destroy the stolen data.

Their employees and customers find out more than a year later, not from Uber, but in the press.

Uber waits a week after $10bn Softbank investment is agreed by board before mentioning it to anybody.

Uber were also fined by the New York attorney general in 2016 for delaying the notification of a data breach from 2014.

This is going to cost Uber money.

Paypal passwords..

What does that have to do with this hack? Uber does not have those, and neither should you ever give this to whatever 3rd party.
