Help the Homeless

I wonder is someone can point me in the right direction.

Everyday I see an older man sleeping rough near HB.

When I go past in the morning he is always sweeping his doorway and putting his blanket aside for the working day. I've offered him gift gifts to buy food and have brought him coffees but I would like to find him some long term help.

I have found a homeless shelter in other parts of Switzerland but have not found anything in Zurich.

I do not speak German so my option are limited but I would really like to find him something as the weather is turning and I am worried that one day he might not be there sweeping his door way.

Re: Help the Homeless

You might want to have a conversation with him, about what he wants and what his needs are, not everybody wants to be helped and some are even tho it might look weird to us happy by living the life they live.

There are several different forms for "notschlafstelle" (emergency bedplaces), what would be best for him will depend on his situation, if he is Swiss and also from Zürich his options are much better than just being a foreigner without permit.

If you really want to help him, just invite him for a breakfast and a coffee at Mc Donalds, and have a chat.

Re: Help the Homeless

Ask him what he wants.

As Zurirollt said, he may want this. Alternatively, as Edwin said, - if he is interested - ask Caritas, Heilsarmee what options there are.

You can always help out with coffee, food, a chat

The homeless living people choose to live that way, and reject alternatives.
I think you have the wrong link. Very pretty though.

Good idea.
If he wants anything at all.

Mohamed, one of the guys who hangs out there, usually just likes talking to pretty girls in his broken French-English-German. And a pack of biscuits always goes down well.

Steve never talks but likes strawberry yoghurt drinks.

The woman with the trolley freaks me out sometimes. I feel like she bores into my soul with her eyes. I guess i am scared that she will find nothing there

Re: Help the Homeless

Some seem to be pretty set in their ways. Like the lady who "lives" in the H&M doorway at Geneva station.

She's been there maybe two years? At least one. Sleeps there and sits there all day. Some mornings she has a good old shout in multiple languages. Or the younger guy with a guitar who hangs around Rive.. Or the English guy with the big bushy beard, he looks real bad but seems quite cheery. Or the English guy who sleeps in the train station at Nyon and plays his bass guitar during the day.

Seems bizarre to us house dwellers but I'm pretty sure they could be somewhere else if they wanted to? No? Or maybe the shelter option just isn't their cup of tea.

I seem to see more and more rough sleepers recently, most of the newer ones are quite young with a couple of dogs.
