Stephen Hawking RIP

World renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has dies aged 76, a pretty good innings for someone who was given 2 years to live at the age of 22.

Re: Stephen Hawking RIP

It was a shock when I read the news this morning, only the other day I said to my husband it was as if he would go on forever.

I love this quote from his family...

"He once said, 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.' We will miss him forever."

Re: Stephen Hawking RIP

I count 'A Brief History Of Time' among my favorite books. Mr Hawking's passion fostered a sense of awe and wonder even in this very non-scientifically minded reader.

An amazing man, the world is a poorer place without him.

As I‘ve been hearing all morning, the world is certainly a dumber place. It‘s the curiosity and wonder that we shall miss so much.

Re: Stephen Hawking RIP

An amazing and brilliant man. He was 21 when diagnosed with MND and given 2 years to live. Well, he proved them wrong living for another 55 years. Just shows what the human body and a determination to live can do.

Re: Stephen Hawking RIP

I'm no scientist and Hawking's theories are beyond my comprehension. I've enjoyed his brief appearances in BBT and other sitcoms/movies.

His dedication and determination to make breakthroughs in his field of work despite his handicap and then later allowing himself to make cameos and documentaries celebrating his success even though his body is wasting away is humbling.

The man made a difference. May he dance upon his beloved stars and feel the freedom of space.

I find them quite easy to understand, and agree with my own (mostly).

I understand what you mean but I don't believe true dismay is measured by the amounts of words uttered.

I cried when I read about Patsycat's passing. I did not comment at all in that thread though.

A death is a death, we are all equal in it. Which is where my egalitarianism ends, me thinks.

Give people more time to read, come back from work, etc. They will comment.

I hope there will be more Hawkings..People who will not be stopped by anything. It is a loss for evedybody, his knowledge will never dissappear, though. I find some comfort in that notion.

This man, RIP, was / is a total inspiration despite whatever health issues, never did he give up. Words fail me to express more on the incredible Stephen Hawkins. Condolences to his family and friends.

I'm a huge Hawking fan, but can't think of anything profound or meaningful to say. He changed how we think and see the world. He inspired people. He was able to laugh at himself. He showed that one can be physically incapacitated while the mind keeps churning out amazing stuff. I didn't know him or anyone in his family, so RIP (from me) seems hollow. So I'll go with Thanks for everything, Stephen, and hope to meet you somewhere in the cosmos when my time is up.

That's a very well-written and thoughtful piece.

Have you got links to your published papers?

Or perhaps you've got a book out: "A brief history of Ticino"?
