Re: Is Elon Musk an insecure d*ck?

Musk is arrogant and a bit crazy. Not unlike other famous entrepreneurs. Sure he was promoting his company, but the idea of a tunnel to get people out of a cave isn't terrible, particularly when the people to be rescued can't swim. He isn't afraid to take risks. He sees a problem and tries to come up with a solution. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Thankfully, the boys were conscious enough for it not to be required, but the World needs people who think outside of the box.

I think it's no surprise that some very smart people are also absolute ars#h@les. Steve Jobs for example. Musk is probably even more extreme than Jobs.

Latest reports suggest they weren't quite as conscious as we might imagine.

Well, at least Musk twitted options /realistic or not/, tried to be hands-on. Unlike other famous people and their sobby hashtag crap which they do to appear sympathetic and concerned.

What? You mean it wasn't thoughts and prayers that rescued those boys?

It looks like his ego was a bit bruised because someone suggested "the equipment they brought to help us is not practical with our mission."

Oh I see so he came up with a possible (but unneeded) solution 2-3 days after being asked for help and therefor people criticism him? I just don't understand society...

Good thing there was a "plan B" at the 2010 Copiapů mining accident... and nobody critizied "plan A" or "plan C"

When lives are at stake you check your vanity at the door.

The guy who said the sub wasn't practical might have been a bit more diplomatic in his wording, but probably hadn't slept much since the rescue started.

Musk, although laudable for offering his resources, might have just let it slide.

At Copiapů, once they'd located the chamber and were able to supply the trapped men, it became a technical problem (A difficult one, but nontheless
technical). In Thailand the weather was threatening to make things worse.

sure. if he said. "ok. great you managed to get everyone out and didn't need the sub in the end, but we're happy to have provided it as a plan b" then everyone would have been happy and ok.

but instead he went along the lines of "oh, you didn't use my sub?! you have no idea what you are talking about and are not the technical expert. how dare you continue to use your working method of getting the children out alive instead of using my sub now that i've brought it here. anyway, why is everyone calling you the 'rescue chief' you're just some nobody local official who doesn't understand the masterful engineering i've done which is why you probably rejected using my sub in favour of the obviously inferior method of getting children out. i mean. i'm elon musk i know better than you even though you had practical experience of getting the kids out. and btw, using my toy is much more important than just using a known working technique. of course it is untested but i'm a genius so i know better. and now i'm going to rant on twitter about how unqualified you are for making such a bad decision. ktnxbai."

Like I said, I probably missed some of his quotes... His actually twitter feed only shows that he was ready to help with or without his mini-sub...

While we do guide children to "use their own words" to recount things, with adults it seems to get out of hand big time.

But it is interesting to watch someone get this worked up about a person I'm quite sure you've never met and definitely has absolutely no influence in your personal life.

Rumor has it Tesla is on the brink of bankruptcy and good ole Elon is desperate for financing. I guess, in his mind, any publicity might help salvage his woeful company...

Ah, another expert with a wealth of experience and successful entrepreneur, I am sure. That's what most internet trolls told him prior to SpaceX as well. About Tesla, about Paypal...list goes on. You realize you're completely irrelevant to the stuff he's doing right? Your arrogance is actually laughable
Oh, c'mon, don't be so harsh. We're all irrelevant compared to other people but it doesn't mean we cannot give our opinions..that being said, I have to agree that I can take some arrogance from someone like Elon Musk....from others not so much.
