My friend is visiting Switzerland with his tourist visa. He wants to go to India afterwards so want to apply for an Indian tourist visa at Bern.

I know people with a switzerland residence permit can apply visa there but not sure about whether they provide service for people holding tourist Schengen visa.

I'm also aware that there is e-visa for India but that seems to be a shorter visa than the visa you get from applying at the embassy.

Any experience on that would be so helpful!

The Consulate is certainly not open until Monday, phone them, get the infirmation direct from the horses’ mouth and finished instead of some random hearsay from an internet forum !!

Residency of the country where the application is made, is not a criteria, however, the right to be in that country at the time of application is. As your friend will be in Switzerland on a valid Schengen visa, this factor is covered.

Without knowing your friend's passport nationality, I can't offer any advice, but if you complete the front page of the CIBT website, this will forward you to the page with all the relevant information.
