Larry Tesler RIP

Probably you've never heard of him - I hadn't - but his contributions to the computing industry have made our lives so much easier. Inventor of the cut/copy/paste, find and replace, etc, we probably wouldn't find our PCs so easy to use without his inovations. RIP and thank you so much.

I've copied the post to honor him. Without copy/paste, my working days would be much longer.

Re: Larry Tesler RIP

Totally agree. When I was working at BBC Radio doing two live programmes which needed scripts, having to type out a whole new page against the deadlines just because a few words had been changed/added was not what I'd call fun. Cut/copy/paste really transformed that part of the job for me. Even now I still use this and find and replace a lot every day.

I'd never heard of him, but thank goodness for his inventions.
May he R.I.P.

Re: Larry Tesler RIP

There is an old joke - you can see exactly how old it is.

The Y2K consultant has reported back and says that there is good news and bad news.
"The good news is that your enterprise only has 3 Y2K bugs. The bad news is that they have been copied and pasted 200000 times throughout your codebase."

Re: Larry Tesler RIP

His choice of Command-X for Cut, Command-C for Copy and Command-V for (insert) Paste was sheer genius. Being adjacent on the standard western keyboard made it even easier.

He also introduced Command-A and Command-Z and many others to the Apple OS.

All of which were borrowed by MS and other manufacturers without payment.
