What is the aircraft doing?

Noticed it today on FlightRadar.. Came from Bern and has circled Geneva for hours.. According to its flight history it does this every couple of days, circles Zurich, Stuttgart, Nurnberg.. various places..

Just being nosey.

What is that good for?

I asked a pilot but he is asleep. Nobody is flying anywhere.

That other planes will accurately find and land on the runway in mist, night, and other low visible situation instead of landing somewhere in the grass or crash into the terminal.

Hey, that's cool.

It must have looked like he wants to land and doesn't know how...What was in the Google search, a plane circling around my house? We need to make the data Google harvests and sells worth their effort!

It looks like standard circuits to me i.e. what student pilots do to practice take offs and landings.

edit Just googled the tail number and read the above posts <doh>

Because I'm under a few flight paths, I'm often on the flight radar app to see what they are .. And decide wether to get the scope out for a closer look..

The big airbus beluga passes sometimes and an AN 124 passed earlier today..

The things that entertain during stay home time.

I would rather watch planes than my neighbor in his tank top, seriously. At least he makes no jet sounds.

Castro, I doubt that flying classes are authorised in VD, tbh.

John, maybe he was trying to get rid off gas?

Yeah, I got the flight radar installed, thought after 12 years and nothing important to do at the moment I could find out about the 23.15h flight every night. Only, it's not passing these days.

We have Customs' helicopters going back and forth checking mountain roads regularly here in the Far West.

It is ILS, they have to do it every 6mo the pilot thinks, preferably in bad weather. As SwissInTheUS said.

Wonder if beluga and AN are cargo planes now.

(Beluga is so ugly)

Was sitting on the terrace last night, around 10-11 pm .. We saw this pretty fast moving plane, really high up.. Hmm nothing on the flightrader.
Switched to the SkyWatcher app .. It was the space station.!!

Directly above us and heading over Mt Blanc.. Very cool but it's too fast to switch on the telescope and get a photo without planning.

Wow, a space station? How come I never see them when at star gazing parties

I saw a psychologist trained in providing care for astronauts talking on TV about current threat of a cabin fever for people in confinement.

A few months ago I saw a long line of tiny lights moving across the night sky - I thought it might have been satellites but couldn't work out what for. They were this

They should burn up on reentry - their orbit is relatively low so they can't stay in orbit indefinitely.

From wikipedia:
Failed satellites are expected to deorbit within a few years.

I'm not sure about the operational life.
