| | Joe Brown, climber dies aged 89. https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...r-died-aged-89
Anyone who has climbed on Northern grit will know of Joe Brown, who along with Don Whillans, climbed new routes in the U.K. and the Himalayas.
It's funny because yesterday I finished making the back wall for a reptile terrarium and I modelled the middle section on Right Unconquerable on Stanage Edge, one of the Derbyshire classic routes - and which he made the first ascent in 1949.
A climbing legend.

I 'm aware this isn't a funny topic, but I damn near pissed myself reading the first 3 posts.

The poor snake! - he must have slipped out of his harness at the top of the final pitch.

RIP. At least he died with his boots off, unlike many of his mates.
Which reminds of a Don Whillans story. A young guy is climbing with the great man for the first time in the Alps. As they scramble up a chimney, the youngster finds an abandoned climbing boot and mentions it to Don. "Is there a foot in it?" shot back Don.
