Adobe indesign alternative?

Can anyone suggest an alternative software to adobe indesign?

I am looking for something that I can mainly use to make a nice looking CV. Considering that is all I will probably use it for, and just updating the CVs every so often I don't want to be paying $20 a month for it. I need something that is easy to use (I'm no design expert), and inexpensive. I've tried various template type websites and they are always problematic in one way or another, plus I don't really want templates, I want to do something myself.

Thanks

I used to use Adobe Illustrator and Indesign professionally some years ago, then the package that I paid quite a lot of money for became obsolete and I didn't want to pay a monthly license. These days, for simple design work for my business I use Pages which comes with the Mac - one part of it works just like Word but you can also use it for some good page layout work. (doesn't Word allow for simple page layout?)

But for serious design I use Affinity. It's almost the same as Illustrator, but it only cost me $50.00 - for life, with free updates. It's a great design tool and I would never go back to Adobe now.

Re: Adobe indesign alternative?

I have an ancient version of InDesign that sits on on ancient mac mini that hasn't been updated in centuries and that I wouldn't connect to the internet any more. Transferring files by USB stick still works. It has a version of InDesign that I bought legally back in the days when a license was for life. It works well and whenever I have to do something designey such as updating a brochure, it still comes out.

Most of the newer functions that Adobe have added since then are bells and whistles that are maybe of interest to super professional designers, but that low end users such as myself wouldn't even know what to use for. So an old version is good enough.

Maybe if you scout around on ebay you can find some older computer and software package and do something similar?
