Iíve thought of leaving too as I very very much miss reading my favorite oldtimers. I loved the intelligence and education and that sometimes biting but so funny humour, especially from the British EF members.
We had built memories here on EF
What I loved the most was that when the chips were down, people showed such kindness and solidarity.

It hasnít been the same since so many have gone.

Honestly some threads became almost obscure as if some were deliberately stirring the pot to create debate, making me wonder about their intent.

Iíve appreciated the amazing writers throughout the years, regardless of their point of view. Iíve been grateful for the informative posts from posters with a speciality whether that be pets or insurance or property or life in Switzerland, or cheese, etc. Iíve loved the talent of those who took on us on a journey with beautiful and very funny story-telling whether written by them or their uncle. Iíve enjoyed understanding the differences of other cultures.

I truly love this community.

Itís just ok now, and maybe it will take off again, but weíve never ever been rich enough to lose friends.
I feel the same, the atmosphere on here isnít pleasant anymore and I am seriously considering deleting my account too.

Such a lovely post, Sky. It was EdwinNL. There was some balance before that we don't have anymore.

Sorry, but EdwinNL's petty and aggressive personal attacks are something I won't miss. I also wont miss his private aggressive messages at random times. If this is the past you're longing, maybe there's a problem in the present.

Yeah, you two had a lot of disagreements apparently. I don't know what happens behind the curtains and who neg reps whom and frankly I couldn't care less.
There's a "reputation" system in place so it's to be expected some will use it. As for pettiness, I'll refrain from commenting who did what. I'm not "longing" for anything btw, I think that a lot of regular users have left and there's no balance anymore. Yes, there is a problem in the present for reasons mentioned ad nauseam. Whether you agree or not...that's your business.

I've been here for a while. Before it did feel like being a complete outsider in a club of people that all know each other well and aren't allowing anyone else in and are ganging up on people who express a different opinion. There's a bit of it still going on, but it's a lot more diverse now. There's a slightly different take

Re: Polarised society:Why?

I did leave, of my own volition. And several weeks later decided to return. Spoke to a mod and was told it was ok since it was all voluntary and Iíd not been banned. Truth is I missed it, and itís not satisfying to just observe. But I decided to use a new id.

There are people here whose ideas and posts are wonderful and supportive and informative. I can trace a lot of friends in Switzerland to EF, and for that Iím grateful.

There are also people here whose ideas, attitudes and manner are just eye rolling.

And there are people who are a combination of all of the above. Itís life.

There are things that EF is good for, and things that are better left to social media.

As Long as EF is useful and informative, and has at least some caring members, thatĎs a good thing. But yeah, there is polarization, Ďus against themĒ to some degree. Human nature.

There's a lot of ganging up now too after the so-called "club" has left, so how do you explain that. There were different "clubs" before and it seems there's only one left now. But I don't think that's the main/real problem, it is the quality of discussions not the differences in opinions. You can have different opinions and still be polite and still try to stay on topic and refrain from cheap ad hominem and address the idea not the person.

I cannot agree with you more! From my perspective, a few of the members that left are exactly the people who were using "cheap ad hominem". I personally, see it less and less.

Diversity is painful for the "established" community Don't fall into the trap of a virtual nationalist who is against immigration because it destroys the current order Sometimes breaking things is the only way to build something better.

Well, I guess different people see different things.

I'm all in favour of new genuine additions to the forum. I'm among those who frequently went against the current and made a lot of "enemies" (lol) along the way when rude attitudes towards newbies or less active users seemed like the "established" thing to do. So no, I never fell into that trap. I have other reasons to complain, but I won't discuss them anymore.
Seriously, not much to add.

Re: Polarised society:Why?

As Sky eloquently pointed out, some of the wit and insightfulness of this forum has left with former posters but there is still genuine caring going on as well as people graciously giving their time to dispense with good advice and information. The mission of this forum still exists and with the advent of new posters and the bonding of present posters, it will continue to do so.

There are posters I genuinely miss and others I'm glad they've left. Diversity is engaging; negativity is just wasted energy. And wit makes this forum fun to read.

Re: Polarised society:Why?

I’ve weathered many storms here, so I’ll stick around for a bit still, but I’ve really considered going as I miss my favourite writers.
Witty intelligence often made me laugh.

There seems to be only one voice, and little balance.
It has been disheartening, leading some to write less and less until they just shut up and give up.

It would be nice if all could have right pleasant discussions or hearty debates without anything else than the pleasure of sharing and writing.

I thought my new word was witty, ingenious and accurate in the context it was used. If you remember, it was created to describe your attitude in that particular thread so actually, you were my inspiration for a new word. Thank you for that.

A swear word plus "-amonius". Quite the modern day Shakespeare.

I thnk you'll find that Modern-day is actually hyphenated.

As in:

You've quite the modern-day Will Ritson

He's actually not. I often disagree with him, he disagrees even more often with me, but a stalker he aint'. He's just genuinely testing the borders of what is trolling and challenging. Grow some thicker epidermis
