Re: Polarised society:Why?

Perhaps it was a simple insinuation of the well-known brood parasite traits of cuckoos. Hello! A cuckoo egg?

On the other hand, would a cuckoo raise the alarm after laying an egg?

Perhaps we should go back to Russian writers. Haven’t re-read Solzhenitsyn in 20 years or more – now that’s a thought

Actually it doesn't. It means

Archaic
1. A sound warning of danger.
2. A commotion.

https://www.thefreedictionary.com/larum

You can do good with the advice to re-write some of your thoughts in English. It'll still be non-sense, but at least it will be funny. For us.

He was very relevant then, 20, 30, 40 years ago, he's not quite relevant now and hopefully will be irrelevant in the future. Communism had this suffocating ability that whoever managed to breathe couldn't really think about universal issues. The Russian classics are different. Still need a different mindset and i wonder how many westerners actually get them, but at least they dealt with universal topics

Apart from keeping the rabble down, seems lots of people join shortly before departure, trying to flog their IKEA rubbish

Re: Polarised society:Why?

Okay, okay, maybe it was 40 years ago

As I implied, haven’t read “the classics”. Genuine question: What do “Easteners” get that we hardly would? No offence, but isn’t this a bit in the vein of Russian soul and melancholia?

Forgive my ignorance but aren’t quite a few books in various languages on a to-do-list that most people never really manage to plough through? Not that I’d admit it myself…

I don't know what Russian soul and melancholia is as I am not Russian, nor am I part of the former USSR republics. What I meant about this specific genre of writing is that it tends to revolve around issues and topics which are very hard for an outsider to comprehend really, it's more like seeing stuff in a zoo. Yes, you see it, and yet, it's not really the same thing. Sort of like when I read Uncle Tom's Cabin. Yes, I get it, but this is so distant to me that I don't really associate neither with the victim, nor with the villains. But I didn't mean that in any was as to imply that "westerns" don't get things, the other way round, we were unlucky to have lived through that crap and luckily for some of us, we were quite young so not to be as tarnished as, say, our parents.

That's what I was thinking.

When has a mod here last deleted their own posts for trolling?

Yep...Read that too but I think "Master and Margarita" is/was better...

As for "discern" perhaps understand would be the better word choice.

Again, can you state clearly why you reference Russian authors and your point, reference and context regarding your "polarized society" thread?
Master and Margarita is better(more understandable) if you have a western mindset, for fatalist eastern mindset: Heart of a Dog...subtle sarcasm that is a norm when coming out of dictatorship...lot of people think 1 party is a dictatorship, that's not true, 1 party is totalitarianism, 2 is a dictatorship, 3 is moderate democracy, 4 is advanced democracy, 5 are perfect democracy...as you know we split in five types of humans, for each type one party...as it stands we are living now in dictatorship...the reason why I brought out Russian scholars is that they was able to write only about extremes as they was living in them lives no better than in a dictatorship...extremes that you can fill now as well in western world...with Trump(who like the russian measure)...20 years ago when just been in two years of managing a site(my first position as a manager), I have been defending salries of several workers, top manager asked me: I am wolf or a sheep...my answer was: I am shepherd...did I changed in all of this years? NO...
