Wonder if this will cause some Vegetarians/Vegans to move to such products that do not involve slaughtering live animals.

I stopped eating red meat purely out of ecological reasons. If and when lab-grown meat shows a reasonable carbon footprint per g/protein, I'll gladly start buying it. In the meantime, the closest I come to the taste/texture of beef is a "Beyond Burger" patty.

I definitely care more about animal rights than the CO2 emissions bit - but if the CO2 is worse than extant vegan options then I would probably stick with the the vegan products.

I would try it. Had a "look-a-like vegan beef" sandwich some days ago which I threw away as the taste of the "meat" was unbearable. CO2 is a huge issue in farming and totally underestimated vs. things like aviation.

Probably lab-grown beef does not fart methane, unlike the end-user?

The process is based on a bioreactor which is probably electrically heated and fed.

The jury still seems to be out on the carbon footprint impact, needs more data from industrial level applications.
