Christmas movies

So after I said "the Thing" would be a 2020's Christmas movie (cos of the virus thing) and someone mentioned "Home alone"

And araqyl had his "Die hard" marathon (only the first two do count i think)

What other Christmas movies are your favourite? also is "Gremlins" a Christmas movie? "Citizen Kane?"

Re: Christmas movies

"Bad Santa" to set the mood in the afternoon and "Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale" to get a bit more appropriately excited after-dark.

The Thing (1982) is one of my favourite movies actually - love it. Not sure if it qualifies as an Xmas movie but I do watch it every winter. You have a point about the virus thing I suppose. If only 2020 had peak Kurt Russell in his crazy hat, things might have turned out differently.

I'd add Trading Places and Lethal Weapon to that list if I were you! Scrooged is also worth a watch, as is The Snowman (the animated one), except that it always seems to make me cry.

I was thinking about it when reading the "Neighbor complaint about exterior lighting" thread. Brilliant movie.

Well, the third Die Hard is "like Christmas" ... just ask the kid on the bike!

Four and five are, sadly, nothing to do with Christmas ... :'(

I'd agree that Gremlins is a Christmas movie ... and of course there's The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Re: Christmas movies

Die Hard is the ultimate Christmas movie, just ask my kids!

Then again, South Park the Movie is our go-to Thanksgiving film.

Wayne's World is also a Christmas favorite.

Re: Christmas movies

The ultimate Swiss Christmas movie is Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel, a film shot in the DDR. The story, the costumes, the scenery and the innocence of the characters makes it better than most Disney films.

Re: Christmas movies

8 Femmes, a screwball comedy/musical/country house murder mystery

Joyeux Noël, based on the 1914 Christmas truce

Both well worth watching.

ETA:

Not forgetting A Christmas Carol, of course. The 1951 version with Alastair Sim.

Not only in the DDR but also in Czechoslovakia. http://www.maerchen-filme.de/maerchenfilm.php?fnrid=2
There are many more fairy talke movies which were shot in Czechoslovakia. Some co-produced with the BRD.

"Le Père Noël est une ordur" is a french cult classic. By the Le splendid group. I like alot of their films including "Les Bronzés font du ski" all very funny.
