I'll admit I was initially amused by the story until I saw the videos of her crying because her scalp was burning (as her sister tried different things to remove the glue). I then felt very sorry for her. We've all done stupid things that we wouldn't want to be ridiculed for if it came to light. This lady was desperate to get the glue out after one month of having it in her hair. She told her story publicly because she needed help. If she hadn't gone public, it might still be in her hair now. I can't find humour in someone else's suffering. I'm not built like that.
Exactly. Thank you very much for posting this.

Well, I feel bad for her as well in terms of any pain, etc., but I don't think that somehow negates the fact that it's very stupid to put "heavy duty" glue in your hair and to expect it to just wash out and to then try to play the victim afterward. What I find even more odd is that she then used the incident to garner attention in the media and to capitalize upon it.

I'm sorry, but I guess I just don't think that such a lack of basic common sense is something to be celebrated. This is a link to the woman's merchandise page, where she is clearly trying to celebrate herself, about the incident:

https://tessicamerch.com/

Imagine if a grown adult ran out of toothpaste and then brushed their teeth with CIF javel cream (bleach paste) and then tried to play the victim about it, setting up a GoFund Me page and seeking attention for it on social media and then creating a line of merchandise about the incident, trying to celebrate themselves for it and capitalize upon it.

I'm noticing an increasing trend of people doing really stupid shit and then using that as a means to get attention on social media and in the media in general.

Re: Gorilla Glued Hair

I think the thing which annoyed people was the "I'm going to speak to my lawyer" bit.

But to be fair I think that's become a reflex thing for Americans, they cry "lawyer" even before the situation reaches conscious awareness.

Unfortunately, it's sometimes the best course of action, not per se to make money off of litigation but to avoid further unexpected damage. Police questioning you: don't say anything, talk to a lawyer. Win a large sum of money: don't tell anyone, talk to a lawyer. Take for instance the American lady who burned herself on hot coffee: McDonalds was found at fault and she got her medical bills covered.

Analogous Swiss situations: Expecting something incriminating: don't video or audio tape without their consent. Someone screwed you over: don't name and shame online.

Not commenting on the moral correctness, but just street smarts of the society you are in.

As for the gorilla glue girl. No one will argue it was a dumb mistake, but hey, I would probably put gorilla glue in my hair if it would raise 20 000 $ for a charity of my choice.

The people who donated to her GoFund Me page were donating under the belief that they were donating to help fund her having the glue removed from her hair and that she needed the funds to have that done.

This is her GoFund Me page:

https://www.gofundme.com/f/gorilla-glue-girl

"My name is Tessica Brown and I am a small town girl who happened to make a mistake by putting gorilla glue spray on my hair as a substitute for GotB glue hairspray, and as most of you know my hair was stuck in place for about a month. After reading and researching I realized I may need medical help and my hair may need to be shaved, so I made this GoFundMe account to help with any expenses related to this unfortunate ordeal. I would like to thank everyone who reached out."

She ended up getting free surgery. So at least she donated the money rather than pocketing it, but I'm not entirely sure how ethical it is to create a GoFund Me page, claiming you need the money for a surgery, and then using those funds for a charity of one's choice instead.
