Interesting question. Most everybody knows George's "Last Christmas". Santa Claus has a massive beard, that
connection can't be overlooked. Then there's the reindeers, they wear nothing but fur and can fly.
Maybe men, getting bald, are imitating them? Beard as a
fur replacement, like R. Kelly in the clip for "I believe I can fly"?
But the interesting question is: what did *you* get for xmas?
lot of symbolics and it's just a beard and they've told us for years how actually men are so simple and all ..Last xmas there was something between lockdown, bars&restaurants&events all closed so I had some time to start this meta-analysis

TalktoyuLater,
so basically what you are saying, if we were now 1972 , you'd go for a cutie like angela merkel (natural, short hair, no nails, no false eyelashes, no gloss, no highlighter or baked blush , no prep&prime techniques, no nailpolish on her feet or waxing etc) but lot of hiking, trekking and you wouldnt go for one of those pin-up style girls who take long baths in frangipani honey foam, then wrapped in a hot towel infused with some tibetan lotus extract... long hair washed, curled, styled, nailpolish but with nail finishing top satin shine-all-month polish, teeth water sonic jet then teeth eucalyptus coating , lip gloss, iridescant eye shadow, magnetic eyeliner, all pampered ,shiny, silky and into drinking pinacoladas )) ?

ahahaha so true )) the real lumberjacks have to spice up their game and show a gun,axe so we know who we're dealing with

but, more I'm looking at these pics more I think of this as a form of male mutilation torture.. to cover yourself with that hair hmm and you cant even see the facial features once it's covered with that fur

wonder who'd the ladies like to kiss ?

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

I don't really have a strong opinion on it. Boyfriends have alternated between being clean-shaven, having stubble, and growing a beard they then trimmed often, and I wasn't asked my opinion, nor did I think to comment. I was never scratched, nor was my skin irritated. Sometimes, they'd appear in front of me clean-shaven, after a while of maintaining a beard, and it didn't seem to be linked to an occasion. When someone looks after their beard, the hair is soft, in my experience.

1 time, someone was trying to chat me up, and his beard looked unruly and a bit unclean, and he was commenting about how he wanted to grow it even more.I didn't find him attractive, and his beard was part of what I was put-off by.

I was chatting with a friend on Fri just gone who was freshly clean-shaven, and looked very dashing. I thought the same on Sat, when I saw him, and he had stubble. I don't recall ever seeing him with a beard, but I'm sure he'd look handsome then, too.

ahahaha oh  ! cant believe I managed to omit such an important detail

So now, the guys here who are saying how a beard is just fine and normal, not much different from a girl's long hair..

Imagine you have to approach this guy (pic on the left) and you want to kiss, how weird it is because your lips are sort of looking for his but they're so hidden and then whether you miss it or not it does look and feel like approaching a prickly bush, thorny plants..

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

CliiniMus I totally understand that and me I was also with some friends the other day and we talked about it .. So she said about her OH how he was going through different stages,(no beard, beard ...) and she didnt like it or dislike it .

About kissing , same thing "not much different" in both situations..then I went on to ask, yeah but how much do you kiss , is it like few times 20min each session within some 4-5 hours ? then she told me to bug off with my stupid question which just shows how no one is looking into this methodically like I do

More I'm thinking about this more I think how if it was the other way around, ladies would grow beard (or not) ohhhh men would be giving their opinions quite a lot then "oh but why now your lips, chin, cheeks it's not all smooth but sooo bushyyyy take it off pls" ..

If you can't see his mouth, then obviously it falls under the category of not well maintained

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

My grandfather, neither subtle nor necessarily polite was not a fan of facial hair. I think he was also rebelling against generations of heavily bearded Jewish ancestors.

He used to say to my father “never grow anything wild on your face that grows wild on your a**”.

As I said, neither subtle nor polite. But perhaps appropriate to this thread.

Oh, and by the way….since I’m in the realm of rudeness….a soul patch has another rather explicit name - should be in the urban dictionary.

We are, it's the women who make everything so complicated. Just look at the mess you're making out of this board with your analysis.
Or that jungleface guy, he was happy with his beard. But nooooo, it had to come off just to improve his chances of getting a kiss.

Why make out with the arse of a Golden Retriever when the mouth of a common garden Labrador offers even more variants of the expected “benefits”?
As to human males with beards, just ignore them. They’re too occupied with stroking their decoration in a thoughtful, absent minded fashion anyway

Is it just a fashion trend or what is it, that men wear a beard?? I've been observing lately and ok, I know there was that fashion trend "lumberjack" and all that, but it doesn't make sense.

Seem to be, once men turn 40 they're like "oh BEARD TIME now, I got Lazzzyyyy" and they grow it more and more or keep it at "brad pitt" level but I dont understand the point of it

How is beard supposed to be attractive to ladies? let's say you want to kiss, there's no way you can kiss safely without that beard scratching and irritating the ladies' skin? also , with all these masks and everything it must be a nest for bacteria, germs and all that?
Lazzzzvvvvvvv is a good reason

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

ennui, finally you came down here in the grown-up section of the forum where all the baddies are hiding

I'm having the same opinion as your grandfather ..And what's interesting at one stage (18,19th century) men where supposed to wear moustache and the wise men (like priests, yogi, rabbi, spiritual leaders) were supposed to have beard.

And all this ended and after the 2nd WW we have all good looking men being without beard, moustache etc.. only to end this recently and it's insane..I remember year ago I was at the irish pub in basel, well , 9 1/2 out 10 men were all with a beard or some facial hair, it felt as if I'm in Teheran in 1979 ayatollah revoulion
