What's the point of having a beard??

Is it just a fashion trend or what is it, that men wear a beard?? I've been observing lately and ok, I know there was that fashion trend "lumberjack" and all that, but it doesn't make sense.

Seem to be, once men turn 40 they're like "oh BEARD TIME now, I got Lazzzyyyy" and they grow it more and more or keep it at "brad pitt" level but I dont understand the point of it

How is beard supposed to be attractive to ladies? let's say you want to kiss, there's no way you can kiss safely without that beard scratching and irritating the ladies' skin? also , with all these masks and everything it must be a nest for bacteria, germs and all that?

It's just an easy way to cover up an ugly face. That's all.

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

Yeah, maybe when guys start getting conscious about their looks and realize their chin is too small or too recessive or too pointy or whatever.

A guy I know had a nasty accident that led to permanent scarring of his face in several places. He grew a beard just to cover it up.

Some beards look good, some bad. Some are clean, some are dirty.

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

Why should I give a, hm, much consideration to what others think about my beard.
Quite convenient to just trim it once a week, saves time everyday for more important stuff.

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

yacek, of course it's not about someone's choice everyone is free to do whatever makes them happy and satisfied .. The question has more to do with the practictal part of the whole thing.

Some women are crazy about beard so that's fine as well. £
The thing is, most of the time it does scratch the other person and it's not that pleasant but both are pretending as if it's fine......

What puzzles me is if the guy decides "I'll grow beard now" does he realise how it's not that comfortable, nice and pleasant for the OH ? let's say , both men and women have the same amount of "beard") and your OH grows her beard , how would you find it ?

If the lady is the same age as the guy, the beard is white , in the case of Franz Josef she might not even notice there's beard ??

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

maybe having a beard saves a lot of time shaving.

maybe men don't just exist to be objectified by women

thankfully this wasn't a post by a guy asking why women wear flats instead of high heels and don't they realise how unattractive that is to guys yadda yadda. we'd have 11 pages of snowflakes melting.

hahaha that's right ) But that's the thing..If men do prefer women having smooth legs and I dont what else... how come "I'm saving time by not shaving my beard" is justified ? hahah

you're right about that...And I've seen recently also a guy who is actually very handsome and too pretty (baby)face and he wants to look more masucline now that he's 40+ .... When I was a student I had access to some med.files and I remember a ton of men , end of 90ties, wouild grow beard because they wanted to hide, ugly teeth terrible

I like The Zappa. Reminds me my math teacher.

About the meaning of beards...I think it is the equivalent of a girl with a decently long hair.

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

MusicChic I think that's women being too nice to them ) Really, I cant imagine a single woman daydreaming of any of those 27styles, perhaps the hollywood one ?? :))

Dont get me wrong, I think a woman might fancy any of them but only once she met one and then she'll be thinking of him whether it's the anchor or soul patch

but just like that, in her bikini, sunbathing thinking of some guy will she really daydream about handlebar and chin puff ?

You know that if you grow a beard but don't have it on your driving license picture your license is not valid.

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

Landers, that's right disfiguration

Sky, I can understand that and as I said I think a lady may find the guy attractive once she met him and found how there's something attractive about him ... But , generally you think of a guy are you really going to think about a guy and a beard? which beard then out of those 27 ?? ) balbo? hulihee ?

I do agree how a girl may have in her mind jason momoa or that "unshaved for 3 days" beard type of a guy but really none of these 27 ,isnt that right ? )

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

Women, take care of their skin- everyday, hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, legs , etc... men, zero effort per month (a tiny haircut if they have some hair) and then "oh I have a beard , have to shave every 3days , NOOOOOO" "I'll make myself something like Sparrow or old DUTCH " so I save timeeeee
