What's the point of having a beard??

Is it just a fashion trend or what is it, that men wear a beard?? I've been observing lately and ok, I know there was that fashion trend "lumberjack" and all that, but it doesn't make sense.

Seem to be, once men turn 40 they're like "oh BEARD TIME now, I got Lazzzyyyy" and they grow it more and more or keep it at "brad pitt" level but I dont understand the point of it

How is beard supposed to be attractive to ladies? let's say you want to kiss, there's no way you can kiss safely without that beard scratching and irritating the ladies' skin? also , with all these masks and everything it must be a nest for bacteria, germs and all that?

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

Yeah, maybe when guys start getting conscious about their looks and realize their chin is too small or too recessive or too pointy or whatever.

A guy I know had a nasty accident that led to permanent scarring of his face in several places. He grew a beard just to cover it up.

Some beards look good, some bad. Some are clean, some are dirty.

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

Why should I give a, hm, much consideration to what others think about my beard.
Quite convenient to just trim it once a week, saves time everyday for more important stuff.

When I was a student I had access to some med.files and I remember a ton of men , end of 90ties, wouild grow beard because they wanted to hide, ugly teeth terrible

About the meaning of beards...I think it is the equivalent of a girl with a decently long hair.

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

MusicChic I think that's women being too nice to them ) Really, I cant imagine a single woman daydreaming of any of those 27styles, perhaps the hollywood one ?? :))

Dont get me wrong, I think a woman might fancy any of them but only once she met one and then she'll be thinking of him whether it's the anchor or soul patch

but just like that, in her bikini, sunbathing thinking of some guy will she really daydream about handlebar and chin puff ?

You know that if you grow a beard but don't have it on your driving license picture your license is not valid.

I blame George Michael.

As for 40+: zero hair above the larynx feels really naked. You gotta wear sumting.

It's a defense mechanism against those silly kiss-kiss-kiss on the cheek
And it keeps the other men's beard from scratching you when it can't be avoided.

Ever thought about being natural? Beard relentlessly grows and unless you're obsessed with trimming it it keeps growing. If anything the cleanly shaved guys put an unhealthy amount of attention to make the beard go.

Also, beard hairs are pointy only for 1-2 weeks. After that, I guess they round somehow not scratching and irritating anymore.

Bacteria and germs? Well, it's not like beard it's the only place where hair grows. If beards mean germs, I guess you shave your head, crotch and any other place where body hair grows.

Re: What's the point of having a beard??

In terms of fashion, beards tend to fall in and out of favor.

Is there anything girls sport that falls in and out of favor, trend wise? Bangs?

I can't really think of anything..
