I have a bit of a strange request. I got back from Slovenia to Switzerland yesterday and on my last evening there I forgot my camera to a cafe in Ljubljana. I contacted the cafe, they have my camera and agreed to keep it until someone comes to pick it up.
Therefore my question - do you happen to know anyone who is planning to travel from Ljubljana to Switzerland? I would be the happiest person if someone could bring it back to me. I would compensate any extra costs.
I was considering asking the cafe to mail it to me, but after some research it turned out that sending cameras by post is not so straight forward. First, you need to pack them carefully so that they don't get broken and because of the lithium batteries they are considered dangerous goods that have additional requirements when it's coming to packaging. On top of all of that there might be some issues with customs when sending such stuff from EU to non-EU country. So in short I don't feel it's appropriate to ask a cafe to go through all this trouble. They were already kind enough to respond to my e-mail and keep the camera.
You can imagine how mad I was at myself for forgetting the camera there and only discovering it when I was already back in Switzerland....

I think you'd have a better chance on FB. This ZH group has loads of members, many from the more eastern countries.

Slovenia... the Switzerland of the East!!! and not just because their mountains are as beautiful as the Swiss, their Hutten are more welcoming, their trails and treks are as clean (if not cleaner), their people damn serious in business (and honest in the private sphere)...and their wine, as expensive as the Swiss!!!.

If you have not yet visited it... what are you waiting for? But please, keep it a secret - it would be a pity to transform it into a tourist trap.




Sorry OP, my contacts in Ljubjana are business ...they would not be able to send you the camera neither, but will let you know if any of my contacts here in the coming days/weeks happen to plan a trip there.

As long as the batteries are installed in the camera, there should be no additional requirements, and as far as the customs all they would need to do extra is fill out a customs declaration. You'd probably get dinged with the customs and VAT once the camera gets here though.

I might go there next week actually. We are in the planning process so not 100% that we actually go. But could bring it back for you if we go.

Thanks, I seem to be able to arrange with UPS in the end. At first I got a refusal from Swiss UPS, but now I'm most likely going to get it delivered to Bregenz and will go pick it up from there.
