Suggestions for a 40th Birthday present needed

Well folks, I need some help. Tomorrow is my wife's 40th Birthday and so far, I have only a few "minor" presents sorted. Upon questioning as to what she might like to have I received only the answer "something as a surprise". My imagination seems to have let me down on that one so I'm appealing for suggestions.
So, any ideas?
I've already done the beauty therapy thing, the wellness weekend too. Shopping trip seems a bit naff for a 40th.

Cheers

Salsa Lover in a thong, wrapped in shiny paper, with a ribbon on top.

Now that would be something of a surprise for your dear wife.

I doubt it. Have you seen him in a thong?

My suggestion is a quick trip to Tiffany's for maybe the Tiffany Bean pendant on chain or the small coloured (pink or Tiffany turquoise) sort of enamel pens - basically anything in the turquoise box wrapped in white ribbon is always popular with us ladies. The plus side is they wrap so the real hard work is taken away!

Does your wife have a sense of humour?

If so, you should ask her to dress up all posh, in her nicest frock, and tell her that you're going somewhere very special. At about quarter to seven, hire a taxi to take you into town, quietly whispering the destination to the driver, then watch your wife's face as she arrives at the Bauschanzli on the Limmat (near the Quaibrucke), to the sound of wonderful seventies and eighties middle-of-the-road and latin classics, and the unforgettable sight of a couple of dozen octogenarian smooth operators shaking their booty and shuffling their way a salsa too close to the edge of their mortal coils...

Treat her to a bottle of Quollefrische, then, with a grand sweep of the hand, show her your reservation for the Lipp Brasserie on Uraniastrasse, followed by a drink upstairs at the Jules Verne.

(And that, believe it or not, is actually a serious suggestion...)

Not a bad idea but she doesn't wear any apart from wedding ring and two other rings I had made, one for each child.

Short holiday sounds a nice one if I can organise a babysitter willing to do any overnight stay - I did think about taking my wife to Paris as she's never been there.

I like it, she does indeed have a good sense of humour - I'll investigate this option a little, thanks

Not sure if the Lipp is open on a Monday, though, but a quick google will reveal all, I'm sure. Good luck!

A weekend for 2 in a 5* hotel in Paris. Dinner in a fine restaurant followed by a good time out, Paris Opera house for example.

Do it.

How about a locket with photos of you, and your children inside, i would love that as a present.

Google (and Dougal) appear to have been quite helpful, Monday seems possible at Lipp.

Paris is still attractive though...

Good lord! Look what I found!

The home page really captures the spirit of the place. It's really rather scary...

I love it - such a shame Sacha Distel is dead, would be a great Saturday night star attraction hear... I can just imagine Scoubidou echoing over the Limmat...
