embarrassing moments as an adult.

Ok i saw the thread about in your youth so here is mine as an adult.

A while back a neighbour/friend brought me some really nice big cups (she as seen my big mugs in my kitchen) we always had tea, or coffee together during the week, so i put the kettle on made a pot of tea, laid the biscuits out on the table all very nice e.t.c. brought the cups and filled them with tea, and milk she looked abit strange at me, but carried on drinking her tea having a nice chat, finished our tea said bye, the next morning i was sat enjoying a cup of tea in the garden using my new big cup, so my neighbour could see that i was putting my gift to good use, when i think she could take no more, she came downstairs, and whispered to me that they where not tea cups, but soup bowls

Oh I have so many. And now with learning new languages, they get even better! Like the time I accidently kept using the German word for vibrator, Galactor (sp?), when meaning to say galactic. No wonder why I kept getting strange looks. Or the time kids asked me what "those" (pointing to octopus tenicles) where. I answered octopus testicles quite loudly. I was again given many looks.

Didn't you do this some time ago, ask for funny or cringe making stories, seem to remember it.

Well i blurted out "Bon Appetit" to a Migros check-out clerk.

The look on her face was priceless as I fumbled to regain my composure in trying to say the right word which is "Einen Schönen Abend".

I accidently told a group of British speaking guys I was going to go shag their friend and bring him over. All their jaws fell on the table.

Where I am from in Chicago, shag means to fetch. Our coach used to tell us to shag the footballs (soccer balls). So obviously I ment fetch.

Re: embarrassing moments as an adult.

I think the silliest moment I have had recently is when I wrote an e-mail to customer, we had been having some technical problems and I was getting a little irritated with them. Of course one must remain professional at all times, but I didn't check my mail before I sent it and ended up writing at the end of the mail, "war greetings" instead of "warm greetings". It was actually appropriate given the circumstances but not what I intended! I also asked someone if they would like a roaming connection with King Kong when I actually meant Hong Kong.....

My colleagues thought up a fantastic new name for a product and proudly announced it as "Roger". Marketing material was already printed

Re: embarrassing moments as an adult.

Ok i have another one.

A few years ago i was waiting to board my plane to go back to the UK, while i was waiting they called my name, and told me they where sorry, but they had over booked the plane, so could i get on another plane to take me to France, then change planes to fly back to Manchester, and for my inconvience i was given $100, and upgrated to first class. So there i am with these business men, and women, trying to look like i flew first class all the time sipping my champagne when they brought the food out all fancy cheeses, and bread looked very yummy, now i love creamy cheeses so i popped the most creamiest cheese in my mouth STOP WAIT it was not cheese, but butter well i could hardly spit it out so i pretended i was enjoying it with a smile on my face, all the time feeling sick.

Re: embarrassing moments as an adult.

When my relationship to my husband was in its very very early stages I was going to meet him in London for the weekend. I sent an SMS to my best friend telling her about my plans for the weekend and, among some comments of a more err… “racy” nature, I also mentioned that he always wore trousers which were a bit half mast so would have to make that my first mission to change.

All tongue in cheek, you understand…

As I watched the message being sent I suddenly noticed that the number in the display wasn’t my best friend, I’d pulled up the number of my cute husband-to-be instead and it was merrily winging its way to his mobile phone.

Luckily he saw the funny side of it and we’ve been together for the best part of 10 years.

Re: embarrassing moments as an adult.

Many working for the airlines: including the ripped skirt up to the waistband that was all I had for 3 flights (a delight for some of the passengers), to often announcing destinations that for some reason or another everyone on board insisted was not where we were going, to using the wc on the ground only to look out of the little window to see the refueler waving at me and the big one- when I finally figured out why the pilots insisted we go up the stairs ahead of them... .
