Just finished an absolutely wonderful re-telling of the Canterbury Tales by Peter Ackroyd. It's a very faithful updating of the original, and he has kept all of the spirit (and obscenity!). Delightful stuff!
Before that I read The War of the Worlds. It's unfortunate that I have to live near the lake, as I jump a mile every time I hear the boat horns and find myself looking up between the houses for signs of approaching tripods.
It's probably the drugs. Perhaps. |

You think you have it bad. I expect a V2 rocket to drop everytime I get friendly with a lady friend.

Just finished reading Princess of Mars, by Edgar Rice Burroughs ... am working through a bunch of free eBooks, choosing to only download the Project Gutenberg ones since I trust them ...

'The Crying of Lot 49' by Thomas Pynchon and 'The City of Falling Angels' by John Berendt.
The first one is dark humour you need to acquire a taste for (if you don't readily have it). The second is a lovely read.

Just finished The Lost Continent (another Edgar Rice Burroughs) the other day ... fantastic!

Bought a Kindle recently, and reading "Hard Times", one of those Dickens novels I passed over as a kid.
Love the Kindle, and am greatly enjoying the book.

I am now reading 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett and am enjoying every page of it. The other books in my basket are the 'Four Hour Work Week' and 'The Autobiography of a Yogi'.
Not sure if this fits with the discussion, but there is a really nice website called www.goodreads.com. This helps keep track of books you read, books you want to read, reviews etc. Cheers.

There are some brilliant stories about his life in France, which are even funnier if you are an expat anywhere who doesn't speak the local language.
