I just read Miss Peregrine's Home for peculiar children by Ransom Riggs... wasn't what I had expected but it was good story worth a read, liked the visual additions he added.

I am reading my own article, mhahaha...I wish I didn't have to, I am not vain, I have to send it in. It deals with language development of trilingual children and psy impact of being brought up in yet another culture.
When I am done, I will reread Havel's stuff.

I just finished Variations on Night and Day from Munif. The 3rd volume from his Cities of Salt trilogy.
It is a fascinating story of a fictitious Gulf country that mirrors Saudi Arabia.
If you are into history and political satire, this is for you. It is an eye-opener about how the dictatorship there consolidated itself over the past century.

Not quite up there with his Hyperion cantos, but close. All in all Simmons is a great storyteller. But I'm reserving my final verdict until I also finish the second book, Olympos |
