"H is for hawk" by Helen MacDonald
A work of non-fiction about training a goshawk as therapy after her father's death. It brilliantly mixes nature writing, autobiography and biography of T.H. White, author of "The Sword in the stone" and "The Goshawk".
Beautiful, powerful and moving. Recommended.

Hermann Hesse "Steppenwolf". It's sad that it's so short.

Evaluation continue et examens, by G. de Landsheere. It's a really good book. The backbone and mechanics of edu assessment. There hasn't been and probably will not likely be any major revolution in the field. People either know or don't.

One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich.
I have read other books on the poor souls who were sent to concentration camps in Russia (the long walk). This one is a little less interesting than the others but still shows how resilient humans can be.
And it reminds me of how lucky I am not to live in Russia. | | | | | I recently read this in English and the translation is so poor and dated that i didnt enjoy it

Eco is great... I probably appreciate the most his Six Walks in the Fictional Woods. I should read it again, when I am done with lined up stuff. He is a genuine humanist. Renaissance. So much soul in his theory.

Game of Thrones - Dance of the Dragons. And as far as the 1st episode of season 5 is concerned - man, the books are much better, at least to me)))

You can download for free many titles from Amazon. I'm reading Nikolas Tesla. Very interesting.

I stopped by in Orell Füssli last week and saw the book "Hausfrau" in their front shelves. I was tempted to buy it right away, but then remembered one review saying that one could get depressed after reading it??
Anyway, has anyone here started reading the book?

Oyster is a great app for reading. It's kind of like having a digital public library, or it is a fairly good replacement for one. But I've been reading Raymond Chandler this past year. They are always a good read.

Just started The Skull Throne by Peter V. Brett. It is the 4th part of his Demon Cycle series and has some mixed reviews on Amazon. Been waiting a long time for this, I hope it doesn't disappoint.

| | Re: What are you currently reading? Seveneves by Neal Stephenson. It's literally about the death and rebirth of the human race. Since it's a new book, there hasn't been time for it to be translated into any of the Swiss languages, so I'm only providing one link. EF readers will be interested to know that about two hundred some pages into the book a Swiss astronaut is introduced, and he becomes a very important character. https://beta.exlibris.ch/de/buecher-.../9780008132521 |

My holiday book - The book of fate by Parinoush Saniee. Very well written, a pleasure to read it.
Highly recommended to those into oriental literature written by women. |
