Current haul from the library:
The Stylist from Rosie Nixon; a variation of Devil wears Prada, young windowdresser sudenly find her self assistant to a celebrated stylist. Entertaining.
Lyrebird from Cecelia Ahern; if you know the writer and her work you won't be dissapointed, another tale set in rural Ireland
Exposure by Helen Dunmore; currently reading,it is about a family caught in the cold war, spies who work for two sides and a missing file, set in England..not bad so far ( halfway through)
Still looking forward to let my eyes indulge......
After you from Jojo Moyes; if it is anything like it's precursor it promises to be a very good read
Another love by Amanda Prowse , according to jacket text about a mum who gets addicted to alcohol ...we'll see if it is any good.

The Hanging Tree by Ben Aaranovitch. So far it is worth the long wait. Then I have the next Invisible Library novel (can't remember the title) by Genevieve Cogman.

Nocturnal Animals, 90s original title Tony and Susan, was given to me for xmas, forgot about it then found it last week. An atmospheric and intriguing story within a story - am quite gripped by it. I have not seen Tom Ford's movie either.
Will have to rummage around the second hand book store soon to see what treasures are to be had after the Christmas literary buying/reading frenzy.

Great to have these recommendations. Can't live without a book constantly at my side, but am finding it increasingly difficult to find a really good read.
Wondering whether this is due to self-publishing etc. My genre is in the direction of Margaret Atwood, and also love an excellent Krimi.

But be warned: if, like me, you decide to google her to see in what order to read her books, you'll discover there's a porn star with the same name, and you'll be directed toward most peculiar websites | | | | | Yep. I had that problem. Oh I adore her. Her Markham Christmas short was a hoot. Have you read the non-St Mary's ones? The Nothing Girl is delicious. | Quote: | | | | | Read both, loved them, especially Cogman! Between him and Taylor I just about manage with the knowledge that there will be no more Pratchetts.

The Blazing World by Siri Hustvedt. An intellectual reading, especially for those who are into arts and such.

The big green tent (or Imago in other translation) by Lyudmila Ulitzkaya. Great novel, I can only recommend it from my whole heart.

I'm really, desperately running out of good books. So haven't slept since months.
My love is Margaret Atwood at best.

The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R King. It is technically a mystery but, oh, so much more too. And there's a whole series for when it sucks you in.
Mallory's Oracle by Carol O'Connell. She writes the most phenomenally literary detective novels, utterly character driven.
If you want really similar to Girl... then Before I Go to Sleep by SJ Watson is great as is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.?? Not suse that's the correct author now I look at it... Utterly compelling and full of characters you can't stand. Gone Baby Gone is great too... Dennis Lehane I think wrote that. Actually that film adaptation is excellent.
Enjoy.

Think the Outlander books might be an interesting read now I have finished the dvds. No doubt the books are better. Re-reading a Robin Cook as my box is woefully empty after I decided to clear out everything I had read multiple times.
Next buying session will no doubt be Palexpo 26 to 30 April 2017
Cheap English books section every year where I stock up on my everyday reading material.

Normally, when I post here I go to a great deal (of probably needless) trouble of including links to Swiss bookstores and D/F/I translations. This time, I'll just post the name of the English books. Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis
