About to start 'Dead Girl Walking' by Chris Brookmyre.
On my radar is 'The Ghost Bride' by Yangsze Choo. I'm in two minds whether to get it or not? Has anyone read it? | | | | | Have you only read the one?
There are more 'Rivers of London' books, and they are all great |

'Saturday' by Ian McEwan, filling my little red books with words and words and words ( for later use by myself :P ) . His eloquence is amazing!

And the Kate Griffin series set in a kind of alternative London that starts with The Madness of Angels. Amazing. | Quote: | | | | | 'Saturday' by Ian McEwan, filling my little red books with words and words and words ( for later use by myself :P ) . I'm currently reading a non-fiction book for once. I found it in a charity bookshop and for some reason I just had to pick it up and buy it: The Joy of Writing Sex by Elizabeth Benedict.

Just finished three books that wow-ed me so much:
1. The Colour Purple by Alice Walker
2. All That Man Is by David Zsalay
3. Stay with Me by Ayobami Adebayo
For those who like to get to know a bit of how it is like to be European men, I'd very recommend All That Man Is |

"The Pigeon Tunnel" by John Le Carré/David Cornwell. Didn't even know this existed until I saw it in the English section of our local good bookshop. I bought it there, instead of on Amazon.
It's a collection of "true" stories behind some of the characters in Le Carré's novels, as well as other snapshots from his life. As beautifully written as ever and packed with hard-to-believe stuff - trying opium in Laos, dancing with Yasser Arafat .... As good as ever.
Has anyone read his recent biography? Le Carré has forgiven the author apparently, so it can't be bad.

"The Baltimore Boys" by Swiss author Joël Dicker. It's the English translation of his European bestseller "Le Livre des Baltimore."

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Delicious 80s geekfest and a damn fine mystery/adventure to boot.

Began the first of the Rivers of London series and lost interest - I got to the mother and father thames bit and it threw me right off.
Also, started the third Robert Galbraith’s Cormoran Strike book and it’s not as good as the first two: a wee-bit on the heavy side and dark. Has anyone read it? Will stick with it and see if it improves.
I finished The Seeker by S.G. Maclean and really loved it. Set in Oliver Cromwell’s time and it’s full of wonderful historical detail. Lightly handled and well-written, I found it a very satisfying & enjoyable read.

It took a long time coming and was delayed quite a few times, so I guess there's some writer's cramp going on...
Currently going through Sanderson's Stormlight archives books. I love brick monstrosities, with 1200+ pages per book, I'm in heaven |

I've just finished reading The Naked Swiss by Clare O'Dea. Enjoyed it! An up to date (2016) dismantling of some modern Swiss myths. It finally came out of the book bindery and is available at the zentralbibliothek in Zähringerplatz in Zürich's Altstadt. |

Just finished 'Sleepers Castle' by Barbara Erskine. A wonderful book. As usual, she doesn't disappoint, her prose was spellbinding!
Also, 'The Lie Tree' by Frances Hardinge. I read it in one night. No, I tell a lie. I read 70% at night, and then I woke up 4 hours later because I simply had to read the rest. The story is so unique, I was captivated from start to finish. Now I'm on a bit of a come down. I wish I hadn't read it all at once. Why didn't I savour it? I can't seem to find a book to read next that can follow it! The last time I felt like this was after I read 'The Night Circus'.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes it takes me longer to choose a book than it does to read it!
