Moon landing a hoax ?

Please watch this video and tell EF what you think ! A hoax ?

Personally i'm convinced that the landing was fake and that the conspiracy theory is true.

Prove me wrong !

This TV show brought up some interesting ideas, but some of them were fairly easily debunked IIRC. This was from at least 4+ years ago, I was still living in the States when it aired.

What makes you believe the conspiracy theory?

When I was at University (many years ago... :msncry: ), a professor of mine was convinced it was just a diarama, not real. This was the same semester I had a different professor who insisted that aliens came down and mated with the ancient Egyptians and that's why their heads were elongated.

To me all the theories make sense. The shadows, the wind, Area 51 and the dead astronauts etc. Looks to me like the proofs are overwhelming.

Alright you convinced me. I'll never go to an american university !

Re: Moonlanding a hoax ?

I started to watch this and like most of these kinds of films, started to find it strangely compelling. What drew me in was the photogaphs. But then I did some googling and found this site:

http://www.clavius.org

It has step-by-step debunking of the various theories. I haven't read them all, but did check out some of the examples about shadows which appear to go in different directions. This site might be a useful companion to act as a counterweight while watching the film?

I wonder if one could see the equipment they left behind over there ?!

How come that nobody went back to moon since the 70s ?

That's just too strange !

I thought of that too and looked into it. Apparently even with things like the hubble telescope we can't see enough detail on the surface of the moon. Check this wikipedia article for the details. With spy satellites being able to read a newspaper I found that a bit much, but that's what they say... So unless we get some new technology we can't settle that question once and for all.

As I understand it the whole race to the moon thing was nothing more than an exercise in national pride. Since there isn't a soviet threat of missles on the moon, there isn't any reason t go back I suppose. If someone finds oil on it though it could be different...

Yes that would be hard to settle since the ones who are responsible for all this, have the most advanced technology for themselves. They would probably never allow outsiders to observe without permission. All this is so obscure ! :)

If I was an astronaut today I would do anything to follow Armstrongs footsteps ! And If I was a researcher my biggest dream would be to discover the moon. I simply can't believe that the U.S. does not invest into more moon llandings ?! A base on the moon would be even more prestigious than anything else on earth. However they might just save money and spend it on laser guns or mars exploration. Could be true.

Re: Moonlanding a hoax ?

Here is a simple opinion. I can believe that the Americans had some luck and landed once on the moon Apollo 12 and due to the low gravity got off again. What I cannot believe is that they managed to get it right so many times in a short period of time with the technology available.

The reason I am sure Apollo 12 landed is simple. They brought back parts of a previous mission and there are specifically placed mirrors on that part of the moon which are still being used today. There is no way they could have been mounted without being on the moon. Note they are used internationally and not just by the Americans. Furthermore, IF the Russians could have dismissed the American lunar landings as a hoax they would have done. Don't forget they had several missions which landed on the moon and returned to earth with samples albeit unmanned missions...

Yeah followed by an alien jihad on humans !

Thanks Richard - I remember that mirror thing. That by itself indicates that someone managed to get up there to place that mirror. Here's a reference:

Scroll down to the section called "The Distance to the Moon"

Never heard of these mirrors ! Do you have more info on this ?

Has anyone ever seen these moon rocks ? Couldn't they be fake as well ? There's not even a picture on wikipedia !

Re: Moonlanding a hoax ?

Maybe they just dropped the mirrors from up high ?!

You mean they went to all the trouble of orbiting the moon, the just dropped a mirror? And it didn't break or bury itself in dust? Think about what you are saying for a second there...

I'm only suggesting here.

Nobody's knows for sure. I've never seen these mirrors on any footage.

I don't see why the moon rocks should be a fake. The Russians and the Americans were certainly not best friends at the time and both sides presented rock to the scientific community which was compared to ateroid and meteor remains to ascertain differences to these and earth rock. Both the American and Russian rock was identical so either they worked together to fake the whole thing or they independently through luck produced exactly the same type of synthetic rock or it came from the moon. I will let you decide on that one.

Andres 10.02.2007 00:45

Re: Moonlanding a hoax ?

Well the mirrors put an end to the conspiracy.

However i'm not a hundred per cent convinced since some of the footage looks fake to me.

But NASA definitely scores with the mirrors ! :)

Maybe not, but the scientific community seem to be bouncing lasers off the thing. This is not just limited to American scientists apparently.

I guess you haven't seen mirrors in any footage because they are boring. The public would rather see astronauts bouncing around the moon than a picture of a mirror. People could then claim that it's a picture of a mirror in the desert, not on the moon...

Now you say nobody knows for sure. If you can accept that laser measurements to the moon can be taken, then you MUST accept that someone put it there. If it wasn't the apollo missions, then it must have been aliens or some secret mission we never heard of - both of these scenarios are more fanciful than the conspiracy theory...

Re: Moonlanding a hoax ?

My partner and a colleague work with these lunar rocks; they are the real thing; there is much geological proof that they must have come from the moon.

evilshell 10.02.2007 09:19

Re: Moonlanding a hoax ?

I wonder if perhaps some of the footage isn't genuine - that they needed to make it more "spectacular", and couldn't get real footage as it happened?

It was a huge deal when it was happening. I am too young to remember, but my mother told me she woke me up in the middle of the night to go and sit with her in front of the TV to see it. She wanted to make sure I saw it, even if I was too young to get it and remember it.
