In Switzerland you think of one thing at a time

In Switzerland you think of one thing at a time.

Everywhere else I have lived you tend to think of multiple things at a time. In the long run, this is not advantageous to you, your community or the word we live in.

To get it right, you need to think of one thing at a time.

Re: In Switzerland you think of one thing at a time

Without you giving us examples, this is utter and probably unfounded generalisation ( I note you spent a little less than a year here ), which some might be inclined to think that your post has just blown the Bovine Excrement Meter.

What gives you the impression that most of us are unable to multitask ?

EDIT: This shite stirrer's thread is grossly insulting to families, house husbands / wives etc. in Switzerland - not only to Swiss people but to migrants, expats, long term visitors, students and the like.

Speak for yourself

In the "Word" I live in, multi-tasking and multi-thinking is a daily way of
life... and I am doing something right! I am living my dream

Oh well, back to work... thinking about more than one thing at a time!

The only person I can think of this applying to is our lab technician. The one thought he is able to entertain is "Nah, I'll do it tomorrow. Or not at all."

Re: In Switzerland you think of one thing at a time

isn't it called mindfulness? a (i think...) budhist practice that basically teaches that we should focus on one thing at a time to fully enjoy it? don't eat while you're reading - it spoils your experience of the food?
but i do think you should add more meat to your thoughts Ikea - we don't live in your head - how did you get here?
happy easter...

Considering the number of people I see on the phone while driving and smoking while riding their bike, you have got to be wrong.

Except that driving and riding a bike are autonomous tasks. i.e., you don't need to think about them.

It's impossible to think of two things at the same time for most mortals. I can't for example talk to my other half about one topic while typing here about something completely different.

The buddhist reference is good. Mindfulness means living in the present moment and devoting your attention solely to the task in hand.

Yep. It's part of the reason Switzerland is so successful and thus the reason you left the flat pack factory you were born in and came here attracted by high wages and arguably the highest standard of living in the world...

Re: In Switzerland you think of one thing at a time

Having been here for a little less than a year and a half I tend to disagree with the statement that people are one track minded or think only one thing at the time. You can find such individuals almost everywhere in the world but cannot be generalized to Switzerland only.

Frankly, I had such thoughts when first I came here with image of people going about their own business in certain schematic fashion but it all has vanished from my mindset after a while (unless I became one thing man as well )...

Anyway, since this place caters for a great majority of immigrants (or expats) per such a small land hence surely you will find diversity of broad thinking. I also came form the place that everyone is trying to meet ends and act like jacks of all trades. Everything is done but nothing precisely and to perfection. It all depends what you like. I would rather prefer someone who puts his whole heart and 100% effort to one thing at a time instead of catching many pigeons in the cage and get reward asap... You know what I mean.

Having said that, I think that I still limit myself to certain way of doing things as the rules are imposed here probably more than anywhere else in the world so that one has to be careful what you do and plan it accordingly and more thoroughly. Yes, it might seem like we operate like robots but this is personal choice. It all depends what you like and what you do. I think that in engeneering field that I work with "one thing at the time" is a justified philosophy thus unnecessary mistakes which might result from multitasking are seriously mitigated.

No, that's because they didn't have any scrupules in the banking sphere.
