Sorry to point this out, but there is no such thing as ghosts, all anecdotal evidence is just that, anecdotal, and if there was any proper scientific evidence then it would turn our understanding of the natural world completely on its head.
I don't think science can't pretend to be able to explain everything.

Well, having actually seen one (similar to what Odile described), which had no other possible explanation, I have to disagree.

I agree...

I believe in ghosts... Since my wife left me, I sleep with the fan on to make noise. The first few nights I didn't and every little noise had me peeking over my covers...

This is THE problem. it can't be *scientifically proved* and will never be.
It's just something that stands on the other side of the border of what scientists know.

Now, have you heard about Near-Death Experience ?

Hardly! Science generally creates more questions than it seems to be able to answer...

That's the function of science. One question leads to another.......

Re: Who believes in Ghosts?

You might have a richer life experience if you leave your mind open to new ideas and experiences. Science is only a few hundred years old and there are two many accounts of the supernatural coupled with animal behaviour, to totally ignore the possibility that ghosts exist and that animals can see them easily.

I have seen a ghost at a house in Italy. Many other people had seen this ghost. I saw her face from the side and can describe her, and she looked very much like a friend of mine. 2 years later I saw an old photograph and there she was, the third wife of the man who built the house.

A 6 year old child visiting from London saw the ghost, the child's description of the ghost was different to mine. During the visit the family also visited the cemetary and the child recognised the ghost from a photograph built into the tombstone. The family looked at the tombstone and realised it was indeed their relative.

Recently an expert has visited the house and put the ghost to rest. Actually he claims there were three ghosts, and they have all been sent away.

I really don't mind if you wish to make fun of these experiences. But I do think you will have a better life experience if you keep an open mind on these matters, and consider there might well be a force around us, that we cannot measure with our present scientific methods.

In this month's Beobachter (A Swiss consumer magazine) are accounts of people who have experienced near death: they were technically dead, and yet afterwards were able to describe the actions of people in the room while they were dead. This cannot be scientifically explained, as 20 seconds after blood flow ceases the brain stops functioning, and in theory the memory of the brain is dead. These people recovered, rentered their bodies and can recount their experiences.

Don't forget that for thousands of years we knew nothing about modern science. The ancient Greeks and Arabs gave us basic mathematics, but we didn't use these effectively until very much later.

Re: Who believes in Ghosts?

I have to agree with Sbrinz, and have no trouble with the experiences desrcibed by other people as my own experiences within this so-often laughed at topic show me that things aren't as they appear to be on the surface.

I think that the words we use are the wrong ones for a start. If I try to describe some of the things I have 'experienced' then I know that I will be only tolerated by those who know 'better'. So it's seldom that I open my mouth.

At the moment I'm writing all of these things down so that my experiences will stay in the family. I've had some pretty amazing things happen - things that just can't be coincidence, imagination or illusions. Also, as a young man (I was 20) I had a mystical experience, one which, devoid of any religious content, showed me three main things about the universe, this experience I still think about every day since then - that is for 54 years it has remained uppermost in my conciousness.

Literature from over the whole world tells basically the same story. This 'story' is repeated over and over again. I am convinced, not that we turn into 'ghosts', but that we haven't yet grasped the basic idea of this fantastic world.

_You_ might. But belief in the non-existence of any sort of supernatural phenomenon is not a question of choice. It's no more closed-minded than refusal to admit that "Night is light and dark is day" (Name that tune!).

Re: Who believes in Ghosts?

My dad used to be a nurse, he has told me that this happened on several occasions when he was working. Not only people who had technically died but also seriously ill people who could not leave their beds telling him about conversations he had in another part of the hospital where it would have been impossible for him to have been overheard.
