| | How far would you go to stay looking beautiful (yuck)
I just read in a magazine that 1 of Demi Moore`s beauty secrets to eternal youth is blood sucking leeches, she was in Austria last year, and had the painful therapy, which involves allowing the parasite to latch onto the skin and suck blood
She say`s they have a little enzyme that, when they are biting dow, gets released into your blood, and it detoxifies your blood. You feel worse, then you feel better.
Would any of you do this |

Leeches have been used for centuries for medical purposes. Not sure about the detoxifying properties of what they leave behind, though. I always thought detoxifying was the job of the liver?
I read a while ago that they were bringing maggots (grown in a lab, not taken off a scabby bit of meat) back into modern medicine because they are so effective at eating dead tissue on patients and leaving the healthy stuff alone.

I'd be surprised to hear that they put anything in your blood other than blood-thinner, but good to hear that medieval medicine makes a comeback.
In Switzerland this probably would be soon covered by the basic health insurance (No, I'm not bitter...)

1. Leeches are not painful, otherwise you'd notice immediately that one had latched on, and flick it off quick.
2. It amazes me that people who only 50 years ago would have been deemed certifiable and whipped off to the rubber room with a wardrobe selection consisting mostly of canvas with optional sleeves, are nowadays feted for their psychosis, and paid to talk about it.
Cheers
Jim

Having said that, if someone offered a life or death treatment involving spiders crawling on my skin I think I would take the death option... |

When you don't have much to lose, I guess you'd consider any possible treatment to make all the important bits appear in their full glory.
I'd never advocate anything involving extreme pain, surgery or administering drugs for purely cosmetic reasons, but hey, if others feel the need - go ahead, it just seems like cosmetic suicide to me.
Maybe we could encourage EF members to post before and after treatment pix and then rip the hell out of them (as usual...)

I know leeching has been round for literally centuries, maybe even millennia. If it's lasted that long, there's got to be something to it.
I was just wondering, how would this Leech treatment affect the severity of hangovers?
Might be worth looking into. Come home from the pub, Leech yourself up, take them off around lunchtime the following day...

Yeah babe... bring it on... leeches, maggots, slugs... and all those allmighty crawling blood suckers should be included in complementary medicine. They will suck our blood, insurance will suck our money eventually we will be back to square one |
