Do you need help with prisons in Switzerland or is this more of an off topic thread?

Re: Going to prison

Ok then I will elaborate a bit more. I was listening to an interview which was on on a local TV station of a man who visits people in prison. Now I myself had my brother go to jail when he was quite young. My father has been a prison ward once. When I worked in Portugal I went visiting people in prison there.

So I was just wondering whether anyone here has ever had any experiences with "prisons".

Natasha, honestly, you complain and throw groans or comments at people whenever it suits you. But your comment here really has no place. You can add an ignore option for anything Sada related and leave me alone, thanks.

I think she already would have by a long long way if off-topic posts were included in your post count.

As for you Sada, I had a quick look, and I cannot see ever giving you a groan.

I find it delightful that you think I throw comments, when you seem to have had a case of verbal diarrhea since you joined the forum.

If I think it is a stupid thread I am permitted to say so.

And I still think that it is a stupid thread.

Re: Going to prison

I'm going to side with Sada on this one: It's a perfectly reasonable question for Off-Topic, and could even be of interest in Daily Life if anyone has any experience of staying in a Swiss prison.

It is possible that any of us could end up - or have already ended up - in such an institution, and I see no harm in sharing what we know about these places.

And, of course, if any former inmates of penal institutions don't wish to air their unfortunate pasts with everyone, they don't have to.

Our sock wearing friend seems to have soured the atmosphere of the forum somewhat over the last 36 hours. It would be a shame to see all the other users get burned by the righteous flames that greeted his attempts at trolling, whether they deserve it (as some surely do) or not (as Sada doesn't, in my opinion).

Taking the p!ss is one thing. Some of the responses to Sada in this thread, however, are something else entirely, and I'd rather not be thought to be supporting that something else by failing to comment upon it.

So... any experiences of Swiss prison life to share?

Re: Going to prison

I went to prison 5 days in the army. It was 5 days of smuggling food and magazines into the cell, reading the bible, doing push ups, ******* and running during my 1 hour yard time.

Re: Going to prison

You'd have to aim high to make this today's worst thread. I'm moving this to off topic because I don't think it's a discussion that is meant to be limited to Switzerland. I've no first hand experience nor visited prisons so far.

But I've read once of a guy whose hobby it is to visit prisons all over the world. Maybe I can find the article again.

Re: Going to prison

In Switzerland they are so cushy there are cases of people actually wanting to get into them.

The most tragic case of this was the recent murder of a young girl because the murderer actually wanted to go back inside. That's a pretty sad state of affairs.

problem is a question like this which is so simple could just spawn a string of replies which are equally as simple - like:

No......

Re: Going to prison

Well that's what the murderer said. But he has a history of violence and in my opinion just tries to get off the hook with as little jailtime as possible when stating his motive.

The hobby prison inmate is called Jan de Cock, here's an interview in German from NZZ Folio, it's impressive. He also wrote a book about the experience.

Re: Going to prison

I've read the book and it is quite fascinating...

As for Prisons, yes I've been, not as an inmate but I guess you'd call it a tourist. It was part of my intro to law course here and well... if I compare some places people actually LIVE in with how the inmates were living... I can see why some would want to go to Prison.

Re: Going to prison

Intersting question. A few relatives have done a stretch at HM's pleasure - one before WW2 for stealing lead off of a church roof (no kidding) and, more recently, another relative (not that close) for lying to the police in an investigation.

I've seen the outside of two Swiss prisons while out birdwatching and honestly, I don't think they would trouble you much if you wanted to get out looking at how low the walls were. One, over near Cudrefin, even has a mural of someone climbing over the walls. Next time I go birding there, I'll get a photo.
