[quote=Dervaish;533632][quote=Cashboy;533358]Aren't The Quaran, The Bible (New & Old) just books?
Haven't they been translated and re-written several times and interpretted to suit an argument or situation or justification. | Quote:
Interpretations can change, 2 main reasons are:
1) New scientific and intellectual developments (Faith, historic and Legal aspects still do not change)
2) People manipulation e.g. When "Free Mercenaries" were needed during the Allied war against USSR, the "72 virgin for each Martyr" was INSERTED in the Interpretations and even in School textbooks.. but now its over the 72 Virgin story is most scrutinised and rediculed!!
Another example, strict interpretations as per the Wahabi School of thought in Gulf States, which is only a religious justifications for an authoritarian control! | | | | | Exactly, interpretted to suit!!

Dear Religious People of All Stripes and Persuasions,
You are aware, I hope, that the more you bang on and on about how right you are and how good your belief system is and how rubbish everything else is and how lost the atheists are and and and and and, and so on, you merely confirm the belief of non-religious people that most of you are a bunch of self-righteous lunatics?
Why all this strife? Why all this discord? Why all these futile attempts at persuasion? Show us how much better life can be when one has a genuine and profound faith.
Actions speak louder than words: A saying that is true in most situations - a saying that is absolutely indisputable in this context.
Just in case you'd forgotten... |

The following quote reminded me of some of our EF members Jaycee Lee Dugard kidnapping case that is in the news. Obsessed with religion | Quote: | | | | People who knew him said he had become increasingly fanatical about his religious beliefs in recent years, sometimes breaking out into song and claiming that God spoke to him through a box.
He ran a church called God's Desire from the house and is said to have conducted religious revival ceremonies in a tent in the grounds of his home, which had bars on the windows.
A web blog apparently written by Garrido includes bizarre religious ramblings.
One post says: ‘The Creator has given me the ability to speak in the tongue of angels in order to provide a wake up call that will in time include the salvation of the entire world.’
He claimed he had hired a private investigator to verify his ability to speak to people using only his mind.
An 'affidavit' said he could 'control sound with my mind and have developed a device for others to witness this phenomena'. | | | | | Hint- Get medical help if god starts speaking to you |

| | Re: Religious Musings | Quote: | | | | | Morality gets a different perspective when you have not eaten food for 3 days and then you passby a house who are throwing away "leftovers" which could feed half a dozen people..
Or when you've lost your family and any source of income in some accident or whatever in a country with no State welfare fund...
Such times really test a Man's metal, otherwise its easy to argue Religion Vs Evolution or Do we or Do we NOT need God... sitting, fully fed, in the comfort of an air conditioned lounge, having a steady job and some investments. | | | | | If we all had morals and care and respect for each other; then others should see your predicament and not be selfish and help you out in the ideal world.
The beaviour of ants come to mind; that are supposedly less intelligent than man.
Then you talk about state welfare; which is actually now abused by so many that don't actually believe it to be immoral to claim it because they believe they are entitled to it.
Nothing to do with religion in my opinion.

I, for one, am not here to try to convince a non-believer to become a believer. I don't believe a true conviction works like that. Nor am I hear to tell you I am right and you are wrong. I am actually here to learn more from Dervaish about Islam and compare notes on the understanding of our faiths. If anyone should ask me what I believe, or anyone should insult me for my faith, then I feel a responsibility to defend what I believe. That's what a forum is about. | Quote: | | | | | You are telling me all this but the thing is that I don't trust you Tell your god to come to my flat for some biscuits and to talk directly with me.
I'm not asking you to trust me. You asked a question, I answered.
God uses all kinds of ways to talk to a man. Oftentimes, he will use another person. In scripture, he had even spoken through the mouth of a donkey.
The problem you have is that you are looking for a God that fits your will. That is why you haven't found one, despite how God is everywhere. I don't order God around, but since you asked, I will politely ask God to make his presence know to you.
In the parable of Lazarus, Abraham says "They (unbelievers) have Moses and the Prophets. If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead".

At the end of the day you do or you don't. Big deal! Respect is bigger than God. Respect enables dialogue.
