This percentage will, I'm sure, include some of 4 million plus
Americans who have been victims of alien abductions.

Seriously. The lunatic fringe aside. Mainstream America is much more aware of the evils of a Godless socio-Darwinist society. They confront it everyday. Either in the form of large-scale economic crimes, or a criminal with a handgun. So these mainstream Americans clamour for God in their lives.

If a Godless socio-darwinist society is the paradise you think it is, I suggest trying it out. Until then, please spare us the fart about relative morality and the virtues of godlessness.

If you choose to believe that your entire being is nothing more than a bucket of chemicals, so be it.
if there is a reason to believe in souls, i'd really like to hear it. the argument from personal incredulity is not at all convincing.

you say bucket of chemicals in a derisive way; i thought you were a scientist? to quote darwin: there is grandeur in this view of life. i'll take one life filled with science over an eternity with a sado-masochistic maniac like the judeo-christian god anytime.

No, only Humans have Souls. Animals have instincts or habits (not sure what would be the right word in English).

Example can be, a Scorpion would sting whether you touch it with love or hatred, as it is its instinct/habit. Humans can rationalise and judge and feel happy/proud or remorse/guilt of their actions.

Aliens do not exist, in my opinion.

Scriptures do indicate about existence of "worlds" beyond the one we know, but its very much open to interpretation as the langauge is not specific.

Little do you know that the Lord of the place you want to go to is the sado-masochistic maniac you wanted to avoid.

You keep calling it a socio-darwinist society, but right americans want less regulation and more personal freedoms, making it more like "darwinism" as you put it.

What about cats, dogs, horses, monkeys? are they without feelings? or do you think that they are effectively robots, as you put it.

Robots dont have feelings, or instincts or habits.

cats, dogs, horses, monkeys and all animals dont have Soul. Feelings to certain extent like you can scare them or they feel physical pain or train them as in Pavlov's Dog phenomenon.

But animals dont feel remorse, hence some savage criminals are often said to be like an "animal".

I don't know if you are really serious about learning it, or just looking for something to snipe at. But the soul is the seat of the mind and emotions. It is the "I" in "I feel, I think". It is not the thought, nor the emotion, but the innermost person.

I don't think the concept of the soul has changed much since the Vedas, which historians believe is the oldest written text on the planet.

Re: Religious Musings

I'm merely making the point that you may just be postulating we have a soul just to make ourselves feel special and different from animals.

As an example, you would say that morality is derived from god, and that without it, we would all be killing each other. Yet in nature, few species murder each other to the levels that theists would have us believe. Do they have a god given morality?

Dogs can feel guilty. If my dog had an accident in the house (which was my fault) she wouldn't look at me or come near me until everything was nice and clean.

She would slink by if she'd been on the bed therefore giving herself away. She would ignore me if I'd been away for a week and be jealous of attention paid to long stay visitors. If emotions are connected to the soul then maybe animals do have one.

I agree Oldhand. Dogs have range of emotions which go far beyond instincts and habits.

Re: Religious Musings

Again religious people should first decide which living beings have souls Islam and Christianity apparently say that only humans have soul. Eastern religions say everything living has soul So much confusion these religious folks create. Amazing that this god apparently created the world but could not get one proper unadulterated manual down to us

I swear I ze devil would have done a much better job. I would have made sure that each and every human was born with my instructions tattooed on their @ss. Humans would be looking at bums all day to read my instructions

Get with it god! Failure on so many levels this god chap

Re: Religious Musings

I too agree that animals are lot smarter than what some of these religious folks give them credit. Isn't it funny that eating them is ok in some of the big religions? Compassion and love my backside! Just thank god, mutter few words and you are all right to slit their throat. Hey! they are soulless b***s and god put them here for us to eat So predictable and non divine these religious texts are

The rear end might not be the best place to put instructions. It is an area that is prone to the accumulation of dirt and like a Jeep's numberplate the attention it receives in terms of cleaning/grooming is, in many cases, insufficient.

It's a question of fact. Either they do or they don't. It has nothing to do with religion.

You are not appreciating the pull potential of my work Rusty Just imagine people having framed photos of backsides on their walls with incense sticks and garlands

People kissing each others @ss to show respect to religious text. A dirty part of the body would get reclaimed. Moral police would offer UK MOT like tests to check if your @ss was clean and if the text was legible Oh! don't forget spot checks and fines too

If you say so

As existence of soul has never been proven I would say no one has soul (animals or humans)....the type that is described in religious text And if soul actually existed then I would not see any reason why animals would not have a soul too. After all we are animals too
