Re: Song of the day

I like The Knife quite a lot

My mate in Exeter successfully convinced me that this girl is amazing, at first listen I dismissed her as being a Lily Allen wannabe, but she is utterly brilliant...

Re: Song of the day

I can't believe I did not know this band before a friend of mine put it on his Xmas mix (my Soul can definitely use some Saving), they are so good. On the verge of Kitsch and Bombastic Overdose but oh so good:

Re: Song of the day

Got inspired for this one by a (decent) proposal from Sam last night:

The Von Bondies: C'mon c'mon

I urgently need to start wearing my lil black dress and learn how to play the bass. If you grow your hair, we could be the Von Bondies in the Bling Bar, Terry, how cool would that be?

If I wear red lipstick and keep a straight face, I can probably get away with faking the 'playing bass' part, what do you think?

Damn, how did I miss all of these awesome songs? Anyhoo.

Here are my nominations for best "album opener of all time"

White Stripes - Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground (from White Blood Cells)

Muse - Newborn (from Origin Of Symmetry)

Smashing Pumpkins - I Am One (from Gish)

Re: Song of the day

good call - reminds me of the "best side one track ones" from fever pitch. they have some older ones that i don't know/can't remember - pretty sure london calling and something by stevie wonder come up. i'm not good at this but i will say:

white stripes & muse also do pretty damn well with 7 nation army and sunburn:

i always liked airbag but most people don't. a handful from more recently:

none of them you would call all time classics maybe... perhaps the best need both energy and a history that these lack. some one ready to step up to the challenge?

I nearly posted Airbag, but I left it out because as you said, some people just don't feel it...same with 2+2=5

Re: Song of the day

Just ran through the list - some quality tunes in there old lad! But surely if we're talking Modest Mouse you have to look at the opener to Lonesome Crowded West...

Warning - Acquired taste alert

Modest Mouse - Teeth Like God's Shoeshine
