MusicChick is not saying that the band is Armenian Jewish, she is just saying that she recognizes an Armenien/Jewish influence within their music.
Serj is of Armenian descent so it is hardly surprising.
Yes, this, thanks, you were faster, I was just about to post.

SOAD, even without Wiki, it is obvious from music. Their names are telling, too.

I used to go bonkers for Cat Power, esp. this one, I love the low fi, primal feel

Though I can take a year or two years break from her tunes these days, there are too many followers, heh.

When this came out, i probably watched this video like 500x

and some goog ol' South African Music. (We knew them as Saron Gas back home, but the record label made them change their name to Seether, too controversial.)

Totally agree about them being of Armenian origin...It's the Jewish part of their influences I don't really get

Re: Song of the day

Ok let's have some music...

So the Stone Roses are reforming but what about the Inspiral Carpets?

Inspiral Carpets with Mark E Smith - I Want You

BTW Noel Gallagher was lucky enough to be their roadie:

It's fun to see Stone Roses mentioned here, and Inspiral Carpets, it's been a while since I listened to them. I actually liked all Ian Brown did on his own, too, he's got the voice and magic. The Fall is my most ultimate, to hear MES with Inspirals is a treat. OOoooh

Re: Song of the day

Not relevant to anything in particular in my life atm, other than the fact that I was chasing circles yesterday (Circle of Fifths - had an in-service morning on music, and what we can do with our Tone Bars).

Taking weird to the extreme, San Francisco's legendary underground band/art group The Residents

And yes, I do have this record in my collection.

Re: Song of the day

Another legendary San Fran band was The Tubes

The lead singer, Fee Waybill shown here as his alter ego Quay Lewd

I've seen them about a half dozen times and probably have every album released by them.

The Tubes: Don't Touch Me There

I absolutely love this song, especially the lyrics (which I included under the vid)

Oooo baby,
Move closer to me
I've had all that I can stand
Take hold of me with your hands

Oh baby,
You give me the chills
Whisper low in my ear
Let knows how it feels
just to know you are near

Your body gives me a thrill
as it leans against mine
I love how it feels
with your jeans against mine

The smell of burning leather
as we hold each other tight
As our rivets rub together
flashing sparks into the night
At this moment of surrender darling
if you really care
Don't touch me there

Unzip that jacket
That leather smells so sweet
Put your chest against mine
Feel my heart beat

I love the way your belt fits
The way it hangs so low
So low on your hips my darling
I want you so

I love your sweet, sweet lips
I love your salty taste
I love your finger tips
When I reach for your waist?! Uh-huh...

The smell of burning leather
as we hold each other tight
As our rivets rub together
flashing sparks into the night
At this moment of surrender darling
if you really care
Don't touch me there

I will give my love forever
if you promise me you'll
never never never touch me there
Don't touch me there

Don't touch me there
Please don't
Don't touch me there
Oh no not there
Don't touch me there
Anywhere but there
Don't touch me there
Never--don't ever
Don't touch me there
Do you care?
Don't touch me there
Then don't touch me there
Don't touch me there
