Re: Song of the day

Back to the 80's

Here's one from a Swiss duo called Double. They were Felix Haug (keyboards & drums) and Kurt Maloo (guitar & vocals) from Zurich who were best remembered for their 1986 hit single "The Captain of Her Heart" (the included video is the European version). Felix's girl friend used to work with my x-wife so all of us got together sometimes over dinner. Sadly though Felix passed away suddenly in 2004 of a heart attack, he was a great guy and will be missed.

The picture below was taken at my daughter's first birthday party back in 1990. Felix is on the left reaching for my daughter who you can barely see in someone's arms to the right.

And now the music video..

Re: Song of the day

Captain Of My Heart is a blinding tune! One of my earliest musical memories, I had it on a tape called Hits Of 86

Although for me the best song of that year was...

Stan Ridgway - Camouflage

Re: Song of the day

Stan Ridgway wasn't the same without Wall of Voodoo, think I have every record ever made by them They were great but never did get a chance to see them in concert before they broke up unfortunitly.

This first vid is a live one of them doing Ring of Fire, it was released as an EP album.

this second one was thier biggest hit Mexican Radio.

crazy.... while posting this "Captain of her Heart" is playing on the radio..

If I were to give one remark about this thread, it would be that there's not enough Nick Cave in it.

We all know Reef, right? (Place Your Hands, Come Back Brighter, Lately Stomping et al?)

Well check out the more mellow side of their world...guaranteed to get tears at a funeral...

Reef - Consideration

No worries - got some great tunes on the go today, again not quite everyone's cup of tea but here's a rare cheerful tune from my personal hero...

Elliot Smith - Happiness (Live)

What I used to be will pass away, and you will see that all I want now is happiness for you and me...

Yay. This song was written by Robyn St Clare of the Hummingbirds. Evan Dando said he covered it to help her out financially as she'd just had a baby, and it's a great song

Re: Song of the day

One of my favourite songs, posting it purely because I had a dream that I was singing it to someone the last 3 nights running...bizarre...

Guillemots - Blue Would Still Be Blue

...and if I had you, oh the stars wouldn't fall from the sky, and the moon wouldn't start to cry, there'd be no earthquakes, I'd still make mistakes, but if I had you, oh there'd still be day and night, and I'd still do wrong and right, oh, blue would still be blue, but things would be easier with you...

Re: Song of the day

Here's something totally freakish, it's Ian Patton (a Canadian) on the banjo who goes by BanjoBoog on YouTube.
He has some nice stuff on YouTube but here's one of him having fun (and you thought banjos were strictly for Dixieland Jazz).

Ghost Riders in the Sky
