Re: Song of the day

Been getting back to some Britpop basics this morning, try this on for size...one of the best live songs I've ever heard (and they were the 2nd support act!)

edit - sadly for all fans this is missing the end solo - for those who don't enjoy arty guitar showoffy finales that's probably a good thing as it's nearly 4 minutes IIRC....

Ocean Colour Scene - Beautiful Thing

Great song Terry, I loved OCS, favourite song has to be the Circle and this a close second, are you referring to knebworth when they were second on?

Saw them live in Exeter in 1996, my first "proper" gig ever....this song was huge at the time, and he stood centre stage near the end of the set and said "Right, we're gonna do a new song now, one we just came up with on the bus on the way over..." (we all cheer like mentalists of course)

Then "Where did you go...."

AMAZING

Also one of the first covers I taught myself to play, it's mental hard though.

Nope - to be honest it was the greatest lineup I've ever seen. Got me ex tickets to go see Stereophonics in Cardiff in 2002 (?) - the last gig of their world tour, homecoming gig type thing, and they were by a mile her favourite band, so I surprised her with it. The tickets said "Stereophonics + Special Guests"

Anyway we get there, first bloke on is some guy called Adam Nathanson, never heard of him since but he was very good.

Then, OCS were on - however the bassist (Simon Fowler maybe?) had broken his hand so the had Mani from Primal Scream on bass

THEN, Feeder were on. And then the Phonics.

However being a True Britpop Lad, OCS stole the show for me. Utterly amazing.

(also, I have yet to meet anyone who knows Britpop who didn't like Suede - Brett Anderson is a legend)

And, since I declare today to be Britpop Day, and it's my chosen specialised subject - I'll go again with

Mansun - Wide Open Space

Now I REALLY need the "I'm not worthy" smiley...I would have given an arm to be at that gig, it was my 18th as well

Um since I'm posting anyway

This really IS a marmite band...I was with them through thick and thin though, yes even the bleak days of them going back to work to fund a recording studio...was going to put You're Not Alone, but since it's obscure as hell I went with one people will know...

Embrace - Come Back To What You Know

Re: Song of the day

Terry, was thinking about that tune the other day! I did like their first album, not too keen on much since.

Saw Embrace at one of the V Festivals in the late 90's, they were ok. Not as good as Gene or the 'Tones though!

On the earlier subject of the 'Phonics, my mate and I nearly got beaten up by 2 Welsh lasses for singing "there's more life in George Best" from the lyrics in '...Tramp's Vest', was a highly memorable moment!! I loved their first 2 albums, went off the boil for me afterwards.

EDIT:
Nicky, I loved the Seahorses!!! Totally underrated! I think people thought they'd be the Stone Roses mk2. Did you ever check out The Yards? It's Chris Helme's band, really rather good.

The Seahorses are amazing...one of my proudest possessions is a copy of the single "You Can Talk To Me", which I found in a charity shop in Chorley for 25p...VERY hard to get hold of (such a geek lol)

The Blinded By The Sun vid isn't working though, gutted cos that's my favourite of theirs

What no Blur yet?
