Swisscom has never offered 12-month contracts to private customers for any of the iPhones. Even if you buy a Swisscom-locked phone directly from Apple, they can only give you 24-month contracts.

Hmmm . . . looks like a protective case is still a good idea for the new iPhone: http://gizmodo.com/5559977/first-bro...yline=true&s=i |

That test was conducted without any internal components present, which in my (layman's) opinion would make a world of difference.
Considering the new iPhone is all glass and steel, it should, much like the screen of current iPhones, be unscratchable. There should be no need for cases.

How do you think internal components would make any difference to whether the screen shatters or not.
Also, if you read the article, Apple is producing a case for it as well, indicating they see a need.

They seem to market it more as a fasion accessory as well, similar to the iPod socks.

Seeing as how it launches a month late here, we can stand back and see if there is an epidemic of shattered new iPhones starting next week.

It seems the top half of the screen doesnt register touches unless the phone is actually being held. Worse still, this is a problem that has developed in some handsets and gets worse over time. |

In my mind the fact that the glass is stiffer is going to be a significant contributor for long term durability issues.

Hey all,
Iphone prices released for the UK.
499£ for the 16GB and £599 for the 32GB.
But get this. THEY ARE UNLOCKED IF BOUGHT FROM APPLE! How good is that? I can pre order for anyone that needs an address in the UK or doesn't go back to the UK very often or at all!
Of course I would sell for the same price it costs me. I'm not looking to make money just help.
I would have them a few days after they are released on the 24th if anyone is interested.
It's about £50 more than I'm willing to spend on a phone though. I know £50 isn't much but a guy has to stop somewhere? When I bought the 3GS that was pushing my boundaries!

I'm guessing Swisscom will be selling them as upgrades for about the same in Swissies if tied to a 2 year contract though, right?
I have to say, i've been with Swisscom since i have been here now (3 years) and cannot find a particularly good contract with them, always spending 150+ a month.

I rarely go above 500MB so the 1GB limit is plenty.
No network has released details of pricing yet. O2 has released tarrifs....but not how much the handset will cost...useful eh?

Hmmmm . . . . the Swiss Apple Store website is still down.
I wonder if they might reveal unlocked iPhones . . . (unlocked to vendor obviously, rather than more generally)

According to this Orange should offer authorised unlocking. I guess only if you buy the phone outright or you finish your contract.

Is there any benefit of buying an unlocked Iphone if you don't have a contract yet? I'm currently using pre-paid cards but I can't imagine myself surfing the WWW with one of those, I guess it would cost me a fortune. I therefore assume that unlocked Iphones are merely interesting for those who are already tied to a contract?
