Just checked mine and photos are behaving as normal after the update. It might be worth trying another sync, or even redownloading the update. Was your phone jailbroken? (Just a thought, don't know if that would actually make a difference).
No, not jailbroken.

The photo change wasn't after 4.01 . . . I noticed the change after 4.00 . . . but it may have been like that at some point before.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

i spoke to a colleague in paris last week and he said his reception with iphone 4 is fine. what he did was to cover the left corner of the fon with a strip of a tesa film and thats it. good coverage, no dropping calls, good reception= all fine for him. we'll see...

For any interested, there's an Apple media conference being tracked right now (live) on the Tages Anzeiger website (in German): http://www.thurgauerzeitung.ch/digit...story/19018341

Edit: Sorry, Thurgauer Zeitung website (they look the same).

Jobs said all smart phones have similar antenna issues, and iP4 is no different. He said dropped calls on iP4 are "only" 1% more frequent than they are on the 3GS, but that otherwise scientific testing shows there's no iP4-specific antenna problem. And to prove it, they're giving away the insulating cases for free and/or offering refunds — all because Apple wants everybody to be happy...

For now, I'm sticking with my 3G on 3.1.3.

Q: I can't get my Bold to drop right now, maybe you can show me how to do it?
Steve: You may not see it in certain areas.

'Even though we think the iPhone 4 is superior to the 3GS antenna... it drops more calls per 100 than the 3GS.' - Logic fail much?

I burst out laughing at this point.

I picked up my Desire and the signal doesn't drop.

Tempting as it as to agree with that point, in the interests of accuracy I should point out that he went on to give an opinion on why that is (although I'm not convinced how plausible it is), and said they were going to continue to research the issue to establish the real reason.

I'm still seriously looking at the Desire, although I see on the tech specs that it's wifi b/g only. Currently my LAN only has wifi n devices on it, so I'm a little concerned about dragging the overall network speed down. Need to research this point more carefully though.

He's in a way right. Most phones will drop about 3 or 4dB of signal when held normally in the hand. The iPhone4 loses about 20dB. I noticed he emphasized Apple is an engineering company, showed pics of their $100 million hyperbolic chamber or whatever, and then the "tests" he proceeded to show were not at all scientific, just someone holding a phone and bars going down

Yup. Play the video. They do a "real" test, not some silly signal bars thing, but actually measuring RSSI in dBm.
http://blogs.consumerreports.org/ele...twork-gsm.html

I can't get any of my phones to drop more than 5or 6dB's, definitely not 20. If you have a BlackBerry hold the ALT key and then press the letter sequence NMLL. If you have an Android phone, go in Settings-> About Phone->Status and you'll see signal strength displayed there. Other phones look here:

Got you, I'd actually already seen that report, I just thought you meant when you hold the iPhone 4 normally you lose that amount.

That said of course "normally" varies from person to person. I actually tried simulating the "death grip" on my 3G S, just to see what it was like, and I can't see me ever holding a phone that way, it just feels weird.

However to other users that may well be the most obvious / comfortable way to do it. Plus the 4 is obviously a new shape so it may be that it's more natural to hold the device that way, I don't know. I'll have a play with one when they come to Switzerland - if the Desire hasn't won me over by then!

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

I always hold my smart phone in my left hand and poke it with my right index finger. I usually try to look as dumb as possible when I do it in public so nobody says 'Oh what you got there?'

When I'm typing I use my two thumbs usually or if using swype then just my index fingers. When I use my thumbs both bottom corners are covered.

So Apple says it's coming out in Switzerland on July 30th.

Are any of the Swiss telecoms firms saying anything yet though?

I guess it was news to them as well when it was announced on Friday and now, on Monday morning, they are all scrambling to put their plans together.

Or it's a mexican stand-off where they all want to be the one to underbid the other guys by one Swiss franc.

Do serious people believe everything the Internet says?

Every iPhone so far has been rumoured "might need a recall! OMG! showstopping horrendous problem!!!". All have been fine.
