it will be available Sim lock free in Europe
the one sold by Swisscom without a contract (899 / 1199 Fr.) is supposedly also unlocked.

Orange Zürich have reserved some phones, they had stopped on tuesday because they didn't know how many handsets they'd receive.
I see. That is both annoying and frustrating as it is contrary to all information I have received.
Every store I've walked past has advertised "Hier erhältlich ab 11. Juli. Jetzt auf orange.ch reservieren." I guess the employees don't adhere to their own store signs?

Orange website My Account is back online

Still haven't received an email from Orange yet, but My Account is back and I managed to get my order in.

Apparently it will be mailed to me... Not sure if I have to take it in the a shop to get it activated.

Oh well, some progress I suppose.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

It's down again. Can I create an account there (on orange.ch -> MyAccount) even though I'm not an Orange customer? (Swisscom here).

Golly, maybe I broke it! And it's the whole site again!

I think the My Account is only for Orange customers; it's where you can look at your account, change your options, etc.

It depends on the store, when I went last week they offered to reserve me one for the 11th without me asking. I just wanted to know the new price plan since it was not on their website.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Don't want to sound like a grump, but can we keep this thread for updates and information on the phone itself, as opposed to problems with the Orange/Swisscom website and real time updates on stock levels. Once its officially released and the hype dies down, most of these posts will be meaningless.

I registered for one myself on the Orange website, and thats all I can really do, when it comes it comes

Isn't this thread about the availability of the iPhone in Switzerland, rather than the device itself? Judging by the FAQ in the first post, I would say so.
To discuss the ins and outs of the device, there is everywhere else on the Internet pretty much.

I personnaly am, sorry was, interested in getting an iphone on Friday, and both technical features and availability discussed in this thread were very useful. So many thanks to everyone who contributed.

I think I'm going to get a new TV set and keep my old sony ericsson mobile phone ... can't justify spending 900 CHF on a (nice) gadget.

Could be a hoax, but thanks for the info.
has been confirmed - several people are saying they have been contacted by Orange and told to pick up their phones on Friday. None of them got white ones, though - but the 16gb black version seems to be available.

Peter, do you know if they were contacted by phone or was it the promised email from Orange? I'm wondering whether these contacts were triggered by in person pre-orders, or simply those that registered on the site...

Were they contacted by virtue of reserving on orange.ch, or because they'd made an in-store reservation?
Considering how scarce the iPhone supposedly will be, how would they know where to direct the deliveries of them so that everyone can pick one up in their vicinity? AFAIR, they didn't ask for an address when you reserved it online.

I went to the Orange shop in Oerlikon earlier today, and there they insisted that there was no in-store reservation, only the one on orange.ch. Furthermore, all the iPhones being delivered to that particular store were already reserved so there would be no point to going there early on Friday, or so they claimed.

It seems like there is no order on Orange's part when dealing with this launch.

I'm starting to get that feeling as well...

EDIT: I've just gone back to the email I go from them on the 5th -

Quote:
"As an exclusive welcome gift at Orange, we are opening our e-shop 2 days earlier for you, before our official market launch on 11 July...So put the 9 July in your agenda now. But don’t worry, we will be sending you a reminder email with direct access to our iPhone e-shop."
2.5 hours left....

They were all contacted by phone. And as far as I can tell they all pre-ordered at Orange shops - some in person, one guy per fax.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Found something cool while searching some news about the iPhone 3G.

http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/...hone_3G_1.html

It talks about a voice activation application being made

Obviously a couple of stores DID take pre-orders. This is all one gigantic mess. Swisscom isn't any better. They still haven't released any clear information on how the reservations will be handled. Some stores say they won't handle reservations until Saturday (if there are any phones left by then), others say they won't even let you into the stores on Friday unless you have a reservation. In Basel I was told that 75% of the phones they will get will be sold to those who made reservations and the rest goes into open circulation.

I don't know what the heck is going on. I don't know whether I can pick the one I pre-ordered up on Friday. I don't even know exactly when the freakin store opens. This is all very frustrating.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

(Orange iPhone) I was contacted by email and they gave me a number i.e. 0800870500 in case if I wanted one .

So I gladly ordered a black 16 Gigs (using my optima 30 subscription it cost me around 250 SFR). But man I have been waiting for it ....

And yes, I had pre registered on website. Actually, one store in Lausanne (near Manor) was also taking pre orders (just recording names, and models desired).

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

How right Mr Jobs is. It's a platform for a whole load of good stuff (and also a big money hitter for Apple too...)

Steve Jobs told USA Today that the Apple App Store will launch with "more than 500" applications Thursday night for the iPhone and iPod touch. Of these, 25% will be free and 90% (of those for sale) will cost $9.99 or less. "This is the biggest launch of my career," said Jobs, adding, "When IBM introduced the PC, it was good, but it didn't take off until people started discovering the software." It's these apps then, that Steve says will "dramatically differentiates the iPhone" from Treos and BlackBerrys. Indeed, while consumers are focused on the launch of the iPhone 3G device, it's the App Store which has analysts in such a tizzy.

[still nothing from Orange, got nowhere with the phone numbers either. Ho hum]
