Or it's a mexican stand-off where they all want to be the one to underbid the other guys by one Swiss franc.
Don't forget figuring out how much extra to charge existing customers (even those who are at the end of a contract).

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

If anybody's interested you can dial *3001#12345#*, press call, and then the iPhone will launch the field test application where the signal bars are replaced with actual DB figures. To quit it simply press the button, as you would do with all other apps.

Interestingly I've heard rumours that this has been left out of the public version of iOS 4

Yup, can confirm it isn't working on OS4 on my iPhone 3G.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

We have just optimised our website for use on the iPhone.... anybody would like to test it out for me please?

www.vintageandvine.ch

Yes this is a unsophisticated plug but I would still like to hear peoples comments....

Looks fine to me. Nice clean, simple interface. I don't know whether you might want to add some more marketing sparkle somehow.

- on restoring, photo optimization took forever and frequently lost connection (still not finished).
iTunes 9.2.1 has fixed this . . . it still takes a long time, but it's not dropping the USB connection any more.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Anybody managed to unlock the iPhone 3G after the 2 year contract by Swisscom? I called and they told me that now it should be unlocked, that I just need to change the simcard for a non-swisscom one. But I have installed sn0w and the message of unlocking does not appear in the iTunes.

I am too lazy to do a restore.

BTW, is there a place in CH where I can find cheap phonebook SIMs?

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Has anyone here found a way to upgrade to a new iPhone with Swisscom before the end of a contract?

I have a 3G and 6 months remaining on the contract. I'd REALLY like to get a 3GS. The 2 Swisscom stores I went to simply say I have to wait 6 months. But a guy at a party told me a friend of his paid 100CHF on top of the normal 3GS price to get one before the end of contract.

Anyone?

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Cotarelo: I think you've muddled the process: if you have official unlock you don't need sn0w, but with sn0w I've never seen an unlock message from iTunes. Not sure what you've done but leaving a restore going whilst you do something else is not much bother.

axxxxe: I've found Swiss mobile operators to be as inflexible and unhelpful as possible, even when it doesn't harm them not to be (reflection on ...). That said, even with the rolling contract trick, you are normally allowed to buy out the contract so should be possible. 100chf would be cheap though in that case, and wouldn't surprise me if an unnecessary change of number were forced on you.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Apparently Orange will sell iPhone 4 only in Globus and only to women on launch day, according to macprime.ch.

Quote:

Richtig gelesen: Frau».

Doesn't bother me, I'm already waiting a month or two for all those faulty 1st gen iPhone 4s to flush through the supply chain

Why? If you have a faulty device you can just get it exchanged.

Don't tell me you value your time over having the latest iPhone!

Can you? according to Apple it isn't a fault, merely a figment of everyone's imagination

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

My current phone is held together by sellotape and my contract is up for renewal, I'm picking one up asap.

Orange still haven't told me when I'll be getting the new one, now I see it's because they're giving them to women only. Why would they do that? They'll only buy them as fashion accessories.

And I expect that to be their story until (if) they do a hardware tweak, at which point Steve will be proclaiming the genius of his engineers and their revolutionary new design.

Still, if it does happen I expect Apple to be accommodating to vocal customers complaining about reception problems with their older iPhone 4s.
