Yes, I knew that, I thought that pk01 was referring to some prices from the newest telco (Sunrise?).
Ah right. In which case, come on pk01, spill the Bohnen!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Iphone 3GS is more expensive than it was in Dec 2009 at the Orange online store.

Yes, I also noticed this. There has definitely been a price increase from since when I got it on launch, even with the current CHF100.- rebate.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Just got the email from Orange that others were talking about earlier. Clicking on the link takes me to an error page: "Our services are not accessible for maintenance reasons. We apologise for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding."

If this means they're buckling under the load from customers just receiving the email, god knows what it'll be like when everyone's trying to order. I'm starting to get a nast feeling of déja vu...

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

I'm not entirely sure . . . on the email there's a big button saying:

"get your online discount

renew your contract now"

Does that mean you have to renew your contract BEFORE you buy the new phone on Friday?

Doesn't look like it: I just tried it again, and it takes me to the My Account page, with current renewal offers. At the moment these don't include the iPhone.

I'm assuming from that, that from 00.01 Friday, the page will include the iPhone 4, and you order and renew your contract all at the same time.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

I just received this e-mail from Orange, claiming I can order an iPhone 4 "right away". I called up right away to confirm that that is in fact not the case, as you might have guessed.

Quote:
Dear Mr. Buffet,

Thank you for your loyalty and your interest in the new iPhone 4.

For you to get the best deal, we recommend that you wait till you’re eligible for a mobile phone upgrade. That way you can acquire the iPhone 4 at a very attractive price together with an exclusive iPhone subscription which provides you with lots of great benefits.

However, should the new iPhone 4 prove too tempting for you to wait that long, you can always order it right away by calling our Customer Care on 0800 700 700. We’ll be happy to offer you a 10% discount on the iPhone 4 without you having to take out a new subscription.

Thank you once again for being with Orange.

Best wishes,
Your Orange team

PS: While you’re waiting to upgrade, why not make the most of your iPhone 3GS? Get the fantastic new iOS 4 software.

Price plans are now starting to come through for the three providers, although there are still some details missing.

Latest info on www.macprime.ch - German only, although even I can understand most of it

The silly idiots state "Order your iPhone 4 now" in their email title but in the message body it says pre-ordering opens on 00:01 Friday

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

So has anyone done the queue before they open thing here? Do the Swiss go as mad as the US or UK and start queuing the night before to get in at 7am?

I think I've decided I want one and I suspect they will sell out within the day and stocks won't be replenished for weeks if not months, so Friday is the day I guess. I don't really want to spend the night on Bahnhofstrasse though. Apple are opening their doors at 7am. What do you reckon my chances of a) getting a phone and b) making it to work for a reasonable time are if I rock up at 6am?

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Looking at the prices, Sunrise looks like quite a good bet, plus I imagine their coverage is better than Orange.

However, my Orange contract runs out next week, and I haven't given them notice so I'd probably have to wait to change.

Plus carrying the number over to a new network seems like a hassle. Sunrise are talking about using a pre-pay SIM as a stop gap, but given the hassle of actually getting a handset in the first place, I don't trust them (or Orange) to get the switch right with multiple SIMs.

In addition there's no Visual Voicemail with Sunrise until November according to their site.

But they are a little cheaper and have EDGE..

Hmm....anyone have any experience of changing mobile providers in CH? I always assume tech companies will screw it up, as Orange and Cablecom customer service has been useless for me over the last few years. However I'm sure this isn't always the case.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

I just got billed Sfr2,200 for using my iPhone for browsing the internet while abroad. I never made any calls or SMS because I am fully aware of the expensive roaming charges. But since I had a personal wifi connection abroad, I extravagantly used my iPhone for nonsense net browsing.

I contacted Orange customer service regarding this issue and the finance department gave me 50% discount. But Sfr1,100 is still damn too much and I have no capacity to pay it. I believe that Orange has also the responsibility of not properly informing the customers of the internet roaming charges.

My question is… Anybody who has similar experience and what can you advise me?

I had similar experience with Swisscom a year ago… I made internet connection in my laptop by connecting my mobile phone. But before I did, I asked the customer service of the charges and he said that it cost you almost nothing…something like Sfr0.05/MB I can’t remember. But after a week, my phone line was suspended because I have reached my maximum limit of Sfr3,000. I contacted Swisscom customer service and told them of the earlier advise from his colleague. I paid nothing.

This is an Orange question rather than an iPhone question, you might be better starting a new thread about it, it could get lost in here. When you do, you could maybe also give a little more detail about your usage, as it seems odd that you'd be billed for international data roaming if you were using personal WiFi.

EDIT: Ah, I see that you did, good move.

I'm keen to get one too but am wondering about the relative costs of orange and sunrise. Have you taken into account the discount (up to 400chf according to their email) from orange? Sunrise also looks like they're giving free sms for a year and 100chf discount.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anyway to know exactly how much the Orange discount will be until you apply, I assume there'll be some kind of sliding scale. I'm not too worried about SMS as I never use up to my free limit at the moment.

What's more tempting about Sunrise is the better data coverage, I'm just wary about carrying the number over, I don't know if it'll be more hassle than it's worth. Especially as I have a feeling that Sunrise will be swamped with requests like never before.

At least Swisscom and Orange have already got one iPhone release under their belts so should, in theory, be a bit better prepared than they were last time. I can see Sunrise being overwhelmed.
