It's these apps then, that Steve says will "dramatically differentiates the iPhone" from Treos and BlackBerrys. I
I'm glad he recognises that the antiquated Treo is still one of the best smartphones available.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

I went this morning to an Orange store in Basel (on Freiestrasse) and the lady there asked me if I was a new customer, I said I was, and then she told me I can pre-order one, but she couldn't tell me if I'm gonna get one tomorrow or not.

Still nothing from orange.ch.

When I was in there the other day (and reserved one) they didn't seem to think I would.

I'm using a centro right now as my private phone. While I like it and while there are literally tens of thousands of apps available, it really can't be compared to the iPhone

Well, the 9th has come and gone, and not a sniff of the promised email or online ordering from Orange...surely they had some idea of what the likely demand was going to be...the words p!ss up and brewery come to mind...

I've read several reports that online ordering is up and running (very much unlike the new me.com service which was supposed to launch at 10 a.m. today):

I saw that too, but unfortunately nothing has arrived in my inbox from Orange yet - anyone else? The Buy Online link in the Orange Shop still just links to the Flash page as well...

11am? 2am PDT which is 9 hours behind? Not that it matters. Thanks for the link, it looks as though people with Orange accounts can order now but those of us who have been waiting for this launch and therefore bought pre-pay non-Orange SIM cards are not allowed in. Huh.

The apps store is up on itunes, at least partially anyway.

The sad truth. I'm not even able to reserve one before it launches it seems.

(For continuity, I suppose) I just attacked the Orange Lausanne shop again. They have no idea about the online reservation system, had never heard of our 'pre-register' emails and the chappie was very interested in my printout I had taken. They used the usual 'the internet shop is not us, it's different' line again.

Yesterday they were not accepting reservations, today I am reservation 202. They already have 88 phones in store, the display is up but not the phone itself. They have no idea [of course] about further deliveries.

Plus ça change...

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Any news of people camping out for the first Swiss iPhone? I imagine it's going to be Zurich as the store opens at midnight.

Gosh I hope the Swisscome iPhone does not have the stupid logo on it.

No camping out here, as far as I can tell - would be pretty sick, too. Seriously - who are those buffoons who have time for crap like that?

Yeah, I guess - but even for a fanboy, such measures are pretty drastic. We're talking about SWISS fanboys, after all.

I've heard people insist that they enjoy the experience of camping out in a line for something, be it a film, gadget or game. I'm not sure how it could be.

It was up for a short while (I happened to see it) but has been down again for a bit. Most of the wire services (example) are reporting the same.

Some sleepy eyed apple employees this morning, I bet... serves them right for not letting me have an iphone

Edit: First disassembly of the 3G version.
