Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

These are the reasons to order direct from Orange as far as I can see it.
  • Slightly cheaper than ordering from Apple direct
  • Orange insurance only valid with Orange bought handset
  • CHF100 cash back if ordered on-line + additional 120 cash back (CHF 10 for each month of your contract)

I'm not a hundred percent sure I follow all that, but assuming the apps are still on your old phone, you could sync your old phone again (using the right account on iTunes). That should in theory back your apps up to your iTunes. Then resync the new phone (again making sure you're using the right account).

Anybody feel free to jump in if I've got that wrong...
my old iphone got stolen.... no chance.

What about Orange's other customers? The one's who don't care about the iPhone . . . they can't even get into their account details on Orange's webshite. This is appalling service from Orange.

If you can remember which apps you had, you can just download them again. It will remember if you paid for them before and allow you to download them again for free.

I can at the moment, I just don't see an iPhone offer. If I use the link from the email orange send me, then I get the busy page.

EDIT

Correction, it now just redirects to "my offers", but there's nothing about an iPhone there. Have they been leading me on? My contract is up for renewal AFAIK.

EDIT II

Now it can't make it's mind up, maybe Orange is trying something.

A touch disingenuous methinks its precisely because we are so damn-impatient for information that the Orange servers have collapsed.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Just phoned up Swisscom, what a convoluted PoS system they have.

A new customer, would actually get the phone cheaper than me as a loyal customer of 3 years - my contract is up in August, I am seriously considering moving across networks, if it is possible to keep my number.

Disgrace.

This was the same with Orange when I wanted my non-iPhone contract, expiring (i.e. handset subsidy recouped), to upgrade to iPhone. They charged me an extra 100chf or so over new customers.

I couldn't switch provider because - despite selling the original contract as "24 month contract" with no mention of rolling except in German small print - I'd missed the cancellation "season" and was forced to stay with them. I went to Swisscom to see if they could do anything, and they thought it was all fine "with us you would have been locked in for another 24 months instead of 12". If you were not told any of this, make sure you know when your cancellation is. It will not be possible to keep your number anyway - they have different dialling codes.

It appears that this is very common - they have you so why should they look after you :-(

Did you back up the old one to the same iTunes account before syncing the new one?

Same here. Seriously considering going the unlocked route straight from Apple, but you can't order online yet. The whole thing is a PITA, not unexpectedly.
online ordering is up and running now - my wife just ordered an unlocked one. Delivery time is 3 weeks ATM.

A company's web services should anticipate likely demand. It's not that difficult to boost your web capacity if you can predict it.

Just to re-iterate.... its actually in your interest to get your iphone 4 in a few weeks time since Apple are quietly fixing some of the earlier bugs. They are saying one thing, and doing something else altogether.

apart from that, it's also the fastest way to get one other than queuing in the pouring rain for 7 hours. Most people who didn't get theirs today and who ended up ordering one from their provider will get it considerably later than 3 weeks from now - if the way things are handled at the provider stores around Europe and the US is any indication. In Germany, the waiting time for a SIM-locked iPhone 4 from T-Mobile is 9 weeks at the moment.

Yes, it might be something as simple as coating the outside antena in an insulating laquer but clearly Apple know they have a fault and are not going to continue churning out yet more potential liabilities.
