Has anybody bought an iphone 4 directly from the Apple Store in Zurich?
Are they available for walk-in customers or are they only available if you
pre-order them online ??

Basically I would like to know if they have some IPhone4s available to buy at the apple store right away so that I can avoid wasting a trip there in case none are available right now.

Any information in this regard would be really helpful.

Thanks...
this really groan-worthy, mate... a)how the fick shall we know? b) check this threads last 3 pages and you get istant the idea what the situation in general on the market is like...

Ordered (32GB) and dispatched on the same day (last Friday) with Orange. Their website was stating 6 - 9 weeks, the phone operator quoted me 1 - 2 weeks and in the end it came the next day. Methinks a lot of this is Apple hype
Yupp, thinking the same thing. Orders placed on Apple.ch take EXACTLY 3 weeks to ship. I mean the minute you order the phone, they tell you a shipping date in exactly three weeks. This sounds very artificial to me - how would they know it takes exactly three weeks to fulfill that order? Apple isn't exactly known for perfect supply-chain-management.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Hi Folks
I could do with some advice please. I bought 32gb iphone in the Sunrise store in Bellevue last Friday having been put off by Apple in Glatt saying they had no iPhone 4s in stock and didn't know when they would next be available & going to two Orange stores (one in in Glatt where they were really unfriendly and told me that I didn;t have a chance of getting one before December!) and the other saying they had 500 orders to fulfill before they could deal with mine!

So I have now signed up for a 24mth deal with Sunrise & my questions are:
1) at the end of the 24mths will I still be "locked" to Sunrise?
2) if so how can I get round this?
3) what would happen if I have to leave Switzerland after 12mths. The store manager told me (verbally!) that if it was for work reasons and I had an Abmeldebesaetigung they wouldn't normally penalise me as it would be out of my control and customer service would deal with the issue. However, when I got home & read the contract it tells me that I would have to pay a fine of 549chf for quitting early!
I think I am going to call them to see if I can pay the extra 250chf to change it from a 24month to a 12 month contract but before I do so does any one have any advice or previous experience?

Many thanks in anticipation!

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Orange.ch are doing their "240CHF gift" thing again where they take 10 CHF off of the bill each month for the duration of the contract. Not bad at all if you get the Xtreme Unlimited Surf package (44CHF a month, unlimited SMS, 1GB data) on a 24-month contract. Handset costs 309 CHf, but deduct the "gift" and you have it for the price of 69CHF... not bad at al.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Out of interest, has anyone got an older iPhone on a Swisscom contract?

My 24mth contract is just ending and have already applied for the iPhone 4 upgrade, but it is my understanding that I can get the old phone unlocked now the contract is over - any ideas on how to do this?

I believe you can, but I've heard that Swisscom will sting you 100 chufs for this "service". Please note I've only heard this and not had this info first hand.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Orange offered it for free, but I never got to try it out as I lost my phone on the way back from the shop!

I think customer service provide you with a key that you give to apple, who unlock the phone via some sort of software update.

the last info I got was that they don't even accept orders at the Apple Store at the moment. The waiting list is so long that they're unsure whether they'll be able to fulfill all pending orders within a reasonable period of time.

The fastest way at the moment is ordering one from Apple online (but then you can't get one with a contract).

If Swisscom are charging you CHF 100, why not just consider jailbreaking and then sim-freeing up your iPhone? I did all this a few weeks ago and everything is good. Worst case, just reset your iPhone via iTunes and you're back to where you were in the first place.

Note: If you do jailbreak, don't update Apple's 4.02 software at this time.

I was at the Covent Garden store earlier this week in London and people are still queuing for their iPhone 4s; there is a seemingly a steady supply in the UK's Apple Stores, but you'd have thought that 6 to 8 weeks after the product's release that the supply situation would have quelled the need for queues - clearly not.

Thanks for the info. So it looks like a long wait before they are available for walk-in customers at the Apple store.

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

Update:

Just gave Swisscom a call and they said to call back when the contract officially ends (2nd Sept) with my IMEI number, and they'd unlock it - no mention of a charge for this. I was on a 24 month contract though, maybe for a 12 month they make you pay the surcharge?

Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ

I sent my girlfriend into the Apple store on Bahnhofstrasse at the end of last week to see if they had any stock. Apparently they have been getting small numbers in, but they are going by 9am. The only way to get one is to call as soon as they open and get straight down there if they have them. Mine will allegedly be sent out tomorrow. Coincidentally 3 weeks to the day since I ordered it.

axman & eyebeebe, when did you place your orders?

And anyone placed an order for the 16GB through orange recently and already received it, or on its way? Just trying to make some estimations
