| | Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ | Quote: | | | | | Did 4.0.2 actually combat jailbreaking in any way though? | | | | | absolutely - it plugged a security hole that enabled all iPhones including the new iPhone 4 and all iOS versions to be (un-tethered) jailbroken over a web interface. It was the biggest jailbreaking-success yet.

| | Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ Hey! You can't take the sentence out of context like that.
My argument was that no jailbreakers would update to 4.0.2 anyway as it doesn't have any new features. Hence, it's completely ineffective at fighting jailbreaking, and Apple knows this.

Well, I guess jailbreakers are generally cautious about updating - but eventually even they want new features. agreed, 4.0.2 probably didn't offer enough incentives to update.

Swisscom are teasing b*stards...
Just had my phone light up with an SMS from Swisscom, mentioning iPhone 4, and Sihl City where I am picking it up, on closer inspection, a rough translation would be:
"We haven't forgotten you, we still have your iPhone 4 reservation, if there is any news we'll let you know."
Great.

| | Re: The General iPhone Thread and FAQ | Quote: | | | | | I have a 3g, and the voicemail has stopped working in the last week or so. I can access Combox (the phone is still on contract to Swisscom) via the key pad, listen to the menu's etc, but the phone does not divert to voicemall anymore if I'm on a call or don't pick up. I'm pretty sure I haven't de-activated it, although I can't rule it out. I haven't upgraded to OS4 if that makes a diff'.
Could any of you techy chaps let me know how I can turn it back on please;-) | | | | | You may want to check your combox status and reactivate it using this link
OR look below | Quote: | | | | COMBOX® is included in every subscription. COMBOX® accepts your calls when
- you do not answer your call within 20 seconds (= Service 61)
- your mobile is switched off or when you do not have reception (= Service 62)
- you are already making a call (= Service 67). To activate or deactivate call forwarding, please proceed as follows: To activate standard call forwarding (Service 61, 62 und 67):
1. Enter the following key sequence on your mobile: **004*+4186(your 10-digit mobile number)#, or **004* und COMBOX® short number and #. Example: **004*+41860791234567 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting +41860791234567 end_of_the_skype_highlighting#
2. Press the call button. Important: If you wish to activate an individual call forwarding service, be sure to enter **61*, **62* or **67* prior to entering +4186(your 10-digit mobile number)#. To deactivate call forwarding:
1. To deactivate all standard call forwarding services, enter the following key sequence on your mobile: ##004#
2. Press the call button. Important: If you wish to deactivate an individual call forwarding service, please enter ##61#, ##62# or ##67# instead of ##004# .
You can forward all incoming calls to your mobile with Service 21. Your device remains silent in this case. To activate Service 21:
1. Enter the following key sequence on your mobile: **21*+4186(your 10-digit mobile number)#, or COMBOX® short number and #. Example +41860791234567 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting +41860791234567 end_of_the_skype_highlighting#
2. Press the call button. To deactivate service 21:
1 Enter the following key sequence on your mobile: ##21#
2. Press the key button.

Does orange changed their plans?
I checked their website today and I haven't found the 3 free number calls plan.
There are other plans not really interesting!

I highly recommend FaceTime on the iPhone. It initially connects using the carrier network but then drops that when it the Facetime connection is accepted and starts using Wifi. Obviously this can be a massive money saver. There is absolutely no need to have an expensive international call if you and your conversant have iPhones. I do recognise that this has been possible for a while with Skype et al . . . but it's nice to have the Apple vid-calling built in . . . and it works like a dream.

But how will an iPod touch connect with carrier network initially?

(I love repeating myself).

beacuse the phone operators would get a tad arsey as they subsidise the handsets then don't make anything from them?

So you can't do a peacetime call purely on WiFi on the iPhone?

Why worry? It's a 6 second call to connect.

I upgraded to iOS 4.1 last night. The upgrade went entirely smoothly and brought with it some nice new features.
- HDR has been added to the camera. It takes three photos in highe speed sequence and then combines them into one image. This makes a big improvement to pictures with high contrast where without HDR some areas would be too dark and other areas might be bleached out
- Places has been added to iPhoto . . . geotagged photos are available on a map
I'm less interested in some of the other features, e.g. Game Center, HD vid upload over wifi, iTunes Ping.

Finally, my new iPhone is at the post office, going to collect it after work, think it took Orange just under 4 weeks to deliver.
