| | Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ | Quote: | | | | | Well done all that got one.. now please post your reviews (paying particular attention to GPS performance) | | | | | iPhone 3G is certainly faster than the old one...and there are lots of apps to download...which has created great opportunities for developers...but as far as GPS is concerned I was a bit disappointed...allthough it works fine if you are walking around...signal was good around HB and oerlikon...but I got the signal loss twice when I was below a building...and even when I was in cab
but for basic navigation it is gud enough...for me this is one of the most helpful feature as I am new to zurich...

OK,
Unfortunately I don't have time to read through the entire Apple evangelist musings, so apologies if a similar question has been asked... but maybe someone can give me a quick answer to this: I want another two iphones iaw following requirements: - delivered within 28days
- preferably 3G
- 8Gb is fine or more
- without hack obviously better
- no contract
- no hassle
- prepay with Switzerland or UK SIM.
Question: Import from US or buy somewhere in Europe ?
thanks
dave

I was just at the Orange shop on Löwenstrasse. They were only out of 16gb black ones, the model I want, by the time I got in.
The rumors of the white iPhones being in scarce supply can probably be put to rest.

dave | | | | | You could chose the prepaid option from Swisscom, the 16 GB costs 619 CHF, the 8 GB is 519. However, it will be locked to Swisscom. If you want unlocked, I think Swisscom sells those as well, but they will be way more expensive (1100 CHF for the 16 GB ?).

You're right. I don't understand why everyone is getting so excited. It's not a bad device, but the hyperbole is not justified.

| | Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ Proud owner of a 8 G Black. Wanted 16 G but they are scarce in Geneva. I went to Rolle (a smaller village about 20 minutes from Geneva direction Lausanne) at 05:45. Was number 8 in line with fellow geeks. The Swisscom shop manager said they received about 40 phones (the line was about 30 when 06:30 struck) and 20 were reserved. Of the 40, there were less than 4 16 G models. Not sure the color ratio. Anyway, the phone is amazing. Took no time to get the feel (better be easy after the number of times I watched that damn demo video on www.apple.com). So I'm a happy camper. Uploaded my photes, music and contacts from Outlook in about 5 minutes. Very easy. Must check to see if notes made it through. Looking foward to the app store tonight. Let it rain all weekend! |

dave | | | | | I disagree. According to August Reitman's Function For Determining Excitement In Humans For Electronic Devices In Relation To Their Functionality And Other Properties, it is quite proportional so far.

I'm surprised a lot of you guys have compromised on an 8GB version if thats not what you originally wanted. There's no difference in size and the difference in price is pretty minimal in the grander scheme of things.

Mind you, the thread survived over 300 posts, that's not too shabby.

And something like iPhone which is an awesome device + apple is doing a very good marketing...so it is quite obvious that there will be lot of hype around it...we have seen lot of totally crap application being hyped a lot...atleast iPhone live up to its hype.
-vib.

I don't expect it to change my life, other than the first few weeks when I feel like a bit of a gimp browsing EF on the train on a fashion statement as opposed to my more subtle Nokia.

Apologies if missed, but the iPhone can act as a remote for iTunes, that's brilliant, want one now, have to wait a month, grrr....
(Will be able to have my ideal wireless stereo setup)
Sorry can't find decent link, this will have to do.
