- 8Gb is fine or more
- without hack obviously better
- no contract
- no hassle
- prepay with Switzerland or UK SIM.
Question: Import from US or buy somewhere in Europe ? | | | | | buy it from Swisscom - 519 Fr. for the 8gb version, can be used with any Swisscom SIM-card. If bought from Swisscom you can activate it at home - otherwise there's in-store activation.

| | Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ | Quote: | | | | | I'm surprised a lot of you guys have compromised on an 8GB version if thats not what you originally wanted. There's no difference in size and the difference in price is pretty minimal in the grander scheme of things. | | | | | However, there's a huge difference in availability. Anyway, I ended up getting a 16gb in the end after all - my wife had a black 16gb iPhone reserved at Interdiscount. And what do you know? They actually were able to honor all pre-orders. She gave it to me and took my 8gb. Don't know why they had to do an in-store activation at Interdiscount while Swisscom lets you activate at home, though.

No iPhone.
I spoke to "Fabio" again and asked when I'd be sent one, he didn't know, he suggested I went to a store and reserved one.
What a prat, if he'd told me yesterday they weren't sending me one I would have walked in and picked it up this morning.
Additionally it seems Orange haven't refunded me the 1000chf they overcharged me for overpriced foreign calls like agreed. Unimpressed.

Hey,
Just wanted to share my pretty frustrating experience with Swisscom here in Switzerland.
I had booked my iphone 16GB 2 weeks ago, and i queued 2 hours this morning (early!) and yet stock was out when i reached the inside of the store ....
How frustrating. I asked how much stock they had, and it was about 10x16GB per shop ... and 30 or so x8GB.
Anyway in 4 hours, Switzerland is out of stock ... I don't know how they planned this ... but badly for sure.
Already in the queue before me was about 40 people, and behind and few hundreds ... and it was pretty much the same for all shops across the country, if what i heard is true.
Swisscom's website that was dedicated to iphone even went down this morning ...
I heard from other people that Orange had even less stock than Swisscom ...
As for me, i will have to wait until stock is refurbished and no one could tell me when that will be ....
Sad.
Ciao,
k

I'm sure it's cold comfort, but your story seems to be the rule rather than the exception. I went through the Orange website to buy one yesterday evening, and now neither I nor Orange are even sure if the transaction was booked |

| | | | | Really, you can't blame Swisscom for much of this. They were allotted whatever portion of the iPhones being manufactured, and they had to spread them out across their shops and the other firms they supply. Apple has a limited stock, and Switerzland just isn't a major target market for them.
As for the next delivery date, I would guess (thought it's only a guess) that this is dependent on the number of orders Apple receives from each of the telecoms, market saturation and other factors. So Swisscom may genuinely not know when the next shipment is.
Having that said, I have to say that I've been using mine like an addict all day. Gotta love that little toy; I still find it a pain to type on, but I love everything else about it.

Some Canadian guy told me this morning that they had to interrupt the manufacturing process because of that and that this was the reason why they are so scarce now.
The battery of mine died the instant I plugged it in at work...

None of these issues have been reported anywhere else, so go easy on the alarmism.

As I said, mine was DoA and I'm pretty sure it was the battery. According to the Swisscom helpline I wasn't the only one with the problem. The Canadian guy told me about alleged issues with the white ones before I even mentioned that mine was dead - so while probably not common knowledge, there are rumors going around.

I had to wait quite a while to get mine activated but it eventually worked.

| | Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | I noticed that the colors are warmer and more saturated on my new iPhone 3G (compared to the 1st gen, but also compared to my wife's 3G) - but there's no real yellow tint on mine. I can live with that.
peter
Edit: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/14717/
seems to be quite normal for the 3G iPhones. The 1st gen's screens were slightly blue tinted, the 3G ones are slightly warmer, some more than others.

If the wifi icon is visible (next to the provider name), you're surfing over wifi for free.
