You mean at home on your own access point? If the wifi icon is visible (next to the provider name), you're surfing over wifi for free.

Peter
Do they deduct that from the free minutes though (100 for Orange), or is access via your private (home) LAN completely gratis?

I'm assuming when they talk about bundled minutes or charges for Hotspots / WLAN, this just means public ones, but I'm not 100% clear on this point.

home access or "free" access is not charged, with Swisscom you are purely charged on attaching & browsing via Swisscom Mobile Hotspots, same for Orange via partner hotspots in Switzerland.

Both companies are now looking into providing international packages to their WiFi offering, so look for upgrade/offers later in the year.

access at home is entirely free - they have no way of metering access at home.

Thanks for clearing that up. Interesting re the international packages, that would come in handy...

EDIT: By the way, I finally got a confirmation email from Orange last night. I'm a new customer and ordered online on Thursday evening. Had some trouble with the payment processing and was worried I'd be charged twice or indeed not at all, like a couple of others, but it seems all is OK. Here's the email text:
Your order has been correctly processed and your payment has been received.
We will get in contact with you shortly to inform you about the delivery conditions.

Thank you for choosing Orange.

Best regards,
Your Orange team

PS: If you ordered more than 1 iPhone 3G, please take note that only 1 will be shipped and charged due to stock availability.
It remains to be seen how long it will take to get here...!

None of these issues have been reported anywhere else, so go easy on the alarmism.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Thankfully that problem sounds more like server side issues rather than with the handsets themselves, so hopefully it should just be temporary (although my German is flaky so I may have missed something...)

However it has to be said that Apple haven't exactly covered themselves in glory in the last 2/3 days, with the delays in launching me.com as well.

Where or when can I find buy on in Geneva area?

Any advice or where I might be able to still buy an iPhone 3G in the Geneva area - looking for a 16GB black ? If not, any idea when more stock may be coming in?

I am in Lugano later in the month. Any better chance there?

I'm not sure the blame is all Apple's. Take a look at the mail header information on the email sent out by their servers now. Looking at their web server headers will deliver some interesting news as well.

Hmm, not sure I follow. The only thing I could spot was Sun on the mail headers, is that what you mean?

The codec is the same but the resolution is different. The iPhone's resolution is 320x480 which is bigger than the iPod classic's 320x240. So you'll have to reencode your videos.

they will look *ok* on the larger screen but when you're using tools like Videora to convert to mp4, you will benefit from much better conversion options and better quality video.

I've a mix on my Touch that've been done for iPod Classic and Touch. They work.

For iTunes or iTunes store? for the latter, you need to scroll down and at the bottom of the page you can select your language/country. If this is for iTunes, click edit/prefererences and in the general tab at the bottom you can set the language.

I can't check if your claim is correct since I'm not in a wifi zone at the moment but I see no such thing on the appstore on my iPhone...

Checking the Appstore on the desktop version of iTunes I can see that this menu isn't there. You have to go to the home page of the iTunes store. Don't know if this is the same on the iPhone version.

That's what I mean. My problem I'd iPhone related not web related. So I'd like to know if anyone has found a way of doing this on the iPhone

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

my mate has managed to get 2.0 on his Touch and is now looking through apps. It's not the most user-friendly method.

iTunes helped me find some nice freebies like "Remote". Use iTunes
