That's what I mean. My problem I'd iPhone related not web related. So I'd like to know if anyone has found a way of doing this on the iPhone

If I understand your problem correctly, I hAd the same. You need to change to the english keyboard setting (though the only readily apparent change is the transposition of the z and y).

Settings
General settings
Keyboard
International

Or something like that. don't forget to leave the german keyboard enabled as well if you sometimes type in that language (auto-complete uses it).

Yeah, that doesn't do a thing for me lol.

the problem is really internal to the app and itunes stores on the iphone. nothing else on the iphone is affected like this.

Anyway I do have a couple of things that are bothering me. Both iTunes and the appstore have content which appears in german and the bookmarks fir safari too ! If you guys ever find a way for changing the languages could you please keep me informed ?
both iTunes and the app-store are in German on mine as well :-(

What bothers me more, though, is that some applications (like eBay and the google App) aren't available in the Swiss store. And although they're free in the US store, I can't download them from Switzerland. No idea why they're doing this.

its not your internetz ?

Ebay have a habit of forcing users to the nearest storefront based on where the IP is coming from.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Updated the FAQ - removed launch-day specific info, added a section on features/technical issues (navigation, battery life, the "yellow screen" issue) and the app store.

The first post on this thread. That's why it's got "FAQ" in its title.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Just stumbled over this:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

Apparently, both Swisscom and Orange do unlock phones once the contracts have run out - or at least they're allowed to do so.

The list also confirms that Orange doesn't have Visual Voicemail.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Oh, and another one concerning Visual Voicemail. It actually seems to be free on Swisscom - as long as you stay within Switzerland.

According to this http://techliberation.com/2007/07/10...ss-carterfone/ , no actual voice calls are made to listen to your voicemail. Instead, all voicemails are sent to your iPhone as sound clips. According to Swisscom, the data volume created by this is free in Switzerland (doesn't count towards your quota either).

But be extra aware about this when you're abroad - then it'll be counted as normal data traffic, which can be horrendously expensive.

I'm a bit annoyed with Orange regarding the Visual Voicemail availability. They touted it as a feature on the main product page, and only added in that it wouldn't be available after they started taking orders for the device. Smacks of deception to me, although it's probably more likely to be due to good old-fashioned incompetence.

So the Orange lady I talked to last week was right, she told me that the Iphone would be unlocked at the end of the contract (i.e. 12 or 24 months). She also told me that any orange SIM card would work on Iphones with an Orange contract.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

There is a great free app called Shazam that allows you to put the iPhone next to a speaker when you hear a song you like and do not recognize. Not only does it give you artist and title, but can take you to iTunes to buy the song. Amazing.

Also found this application which maybe helpful to those who download movies which are not in iTunes format. This free program converts movie files so you may watch them on iTunes or the iPhone.

http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/

Now waiting to see how to unlock the iPhone to hand the 8G I bought to the girlfriend (who is on cheapy charlie Sunrise network) and to get the 16G for myself!

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

A couple of things you might not have known about your iPhone (some are new in 2.0 / iPhone 3G) - compiled from some macrumors forums:

- Double-Click on the home button to enable/disable the keylock
- Clicking and holding on an image in Safari and e-Mail will let you save the image to your camera library
- if music's playing you can double-tap while you're on the home screen and it'll bring up a pop-up that lets you control iTunes
- Rotating the iPhone while Calculator is running will bring up the new scientific calc
- A double-tap in the phone opens the favorites in the call list
- You can now select several E-mails at once to delete
- The microphone on the iPhone headset is touch-sensitive: pinching it once will pause a song or answer a call, double pinching it will fast forward
- If you have 3G or WiFi enabled, you can surf the web while talking on the phone
- if music's playing you can double-tap while you're on the home screen and it'll bring up a pop-up that lets you control iTunes
- You can watch embedded Youtube videos in Safari

It doesn't - Apple has somehow managed to make Youtube offer H.264 streaming for the iPhone.

Yeah, that I knew, that's how the standalone YouTube application works on the iPhone. Didn't know about the fact that they also play embedded in Safari.

I've heard that Swisscom has about 700-800 names on their Zurich waiting list now.

Seems like more people went with Swisscom than Orange. Counter-intuitive to me as their offers seemed inferior.
Is it representative of their market-shares in general?
