Orange is telling people who are ordering now that it's going to be a 3-month wait :-(
Wow. Is that ordering now, as in from today, or as in those of us who ordered last Thu when they first opened the store?

Not a big surprise...unless you have never used a 3G smartphone before.
Very true - I got more than 5 hours of usage time and 22 hours of standby (during the night it was in airplane mode, though) out of it today with 3G, push services and Bluetooth turned on. WiFi was turned on for abou 3 hours, location services were disabled.

Really not that bad - my HTC TyTN 2 never lasted that long.

I guess it'll last you a day with everything on - but having a USB cable along is probably a good thing.

I found that GPS is the main battery killer, followed by bluetooth, followed by 3G and push e-mail. I never actually need WiFi and 3G at the same time, so I'll just disable the one I don't need. What sucks is the fact that they buried the 3G button too deep in the config tool.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

something quite odd just hapenend: I had used the phone until it turned itself off to calibrate the battery.

Now it restarted but the SIM was still PIN-locked. Despite that it received 4 e-mails! Don't think that's very comforting. So if my iPhone gets stolen, the thief will be receiving my emails even though he doesn't know my SIM pin? WTF?

no, that's now - those who ordered last week should get theirs within 1-2 weeks as the ones arriving now are used to fulfill the pre-orders.

I'd say so - although I don't work for Orange. I'm pretty sure they distribute a good portion directly to the customers

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Hi People,

I ordered from Orange Online, in thursday 10th, when they opened its online store for who had reserved before. But until this moment I only received an email confirming that I bought it, but nothing else. Is there anyone else in the same situation?

cheers,

Yes, me and at least a few others, judging from the comments on here. Patience is a virtue

Same boat here, hanging on.... I can wait a couple of weeks no problem. If it's going to be a couple of months I might have to do a rethink...

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Does anyone know why Apple aren't offering Applecare for the iPhone in Switzerland? Is it because of difference in consumer rights protection laws?

It would seem like a good idea, as one will undoubtedly need to replace the un-replaceable battery, probably as early as after just one year.

Dunno about the first bit but was interested to see if the battery was covered by Applecare. The terms state they will replace if "during the Coverage Period, the capacity of the covered iPhone battery to hold an electrical charge has depleted fifty (50%)". I have a ooooooold ipod and needed to replace the un-replaceable battery. It took about 10 mins, cost (I think) £8 and is still going after at least a year

There are DIY kits for some, mostly older, iPods, but it's not always feasible and sometimes requires scary, costly things such as soldering.

If soldering is scary then look at the ifixit disassembly pics - no frightening blobs of silver to be found I guess it won't be long before there's a guide and replacement batteries available. Though my 30Gb ipod is at least 3 yrs old and still going strong.

Interestingly, PC World thinks the battery life is quite good.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

I'm in same status but I don't have neither an email nor a sms.

My wife ordered same day as me ( white one ) and got it this morning.

I called Customer Care today to ask the status but agent told me he can not say anything about the status. I forced him a little and he started to almost shout at me to say "I can't tell the status ". I warned him that he can not threat me like that then he calm down and say "next week" but no specific date . he also said "orange holds the stock and started to ship web orders as soon as possible" . I asked him again how much time do i need to wait check with customer service again if I will not get it. He said " next tuesday"

This is how the customer care in general in Switzerland. "I can not...." is the last phrase they could say and there is no further service after that point.

Did your wife's arrive through the standard Swiss Post, or with a courier like UPS or someone similar?
